Nho Quan strengthens prevention and control of African swine fever
Currently, African swine fever is developing complicatedly in Nho Quan district (Ninh Binh), not only causing heavy economic losses to farmers but also potentially spreading if there are no timely and effective control measures.
To date, African swine fever has occurred in 156 households in 47 villages and hamlets in Nho Quan district, with a total of 644 pigs infected or suspected of being infected and having to be destroyed, weighing more than 29,000 kg. In particular, the number and weight of pigs that have to be destroyed in recent days has increased significantly.
The main reasons for the recurrence of the disease are: Sanitation and disinfection at farms and households are still limited. The situation of transporting and buying and selling pigs without quarantine is still happening in some localities. Small-scale, scattered livestock farming, lack of disease control makes the virus easy to spread. In particular, African swine fever virus can survive in the environment, food and farming equipment for a long time, increasing the risk of spreading the pathogen. In this situation, Nho Quan district has directed localities to urgently isolate and handle outbreaks, strengthen inspection, monitoring, and propaganda to raise people's awareness of disease prevention and control, according to Ninh Binh newspaper .
