Gia Lai maintains 100% of localities meeting illiteracy eradication standards

In 2024, Gia Lai province (old) achieved many positive results in the work of XMC. The total population of the province aged 15 to 60 is 1,077,588 people, of which 1,028,033 people are literate, reaching a rate of 95.4%, an increase of 0.59% compared to 2023.

In the age group of 15-25, the literacy rate reached 99.1%; in the age group of 15-35 it reached 98.54%. The whole province has 7/218 communes meeting XMC level 1 standards (3.21%) and 211/218 communes meeting level 2 (96.79%). At the district level, 15/17 units met XMC level 2 standards, remaining stable compared to the previous year. With this result, Gia Lai (old) was recognized as meeting XMC level 1 standards in 2024.

Over the past year, the work of opening literacy classes continued to receive attention. The whole province organized 255 classes, with 6,894 students, an increase of 32 classes and 553 students compared to 2023. Most of the students are ethnic minorities, living in remote areas, areas with especially difficult socio -economic conditions.

The Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai (old) has proactively advised the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and Provincial People's Committee to issue many plans, projects, and policies to develop education , improve the quality of universal education, and improve the quality of education. The Department of Education and Training of districts, towns, and cities actively implements tasks at the grassroots level, regularly investigates and updates XMC data, ensuring consistent and accurate information.

The team of teachers working in remote areas always promote a sense of responsibility, attachment to the people, and strive to maintain and improve the quality of classes. Many localities have mobilized the participation of the people in motivating students to go to class, taking care of their children's education, contributing to creating a sustainable learning movement at the grassroots level.

Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai informed that in the period of 2025-2026, Gia Lai province will continue to maintain and improve the quality of universal education, XMC, and proactively adapt to the merger of administrative units. People's Committees at all levels have developed plans to adjust the implementation roadmap appropriately, ensuring that XMC work is not interrupted.

Localities will review, update, and synchronize XMC data in the software system according to the new administrative unit, and at the same time rearrange the staff, teachers, and employees in charge of this work in a streamlined and effective manner. The inspection and recognition of universal education and XMC results in 2025 will be carried out seriously, in accordance with the process and instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Gia Lai is also integrating the implementation of the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development for Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, Phase 1 (2021-2025) with the work of universalizing education and literacy. The focus is on increasing the mobilization of illiterate people to attend classes, expanding literacy classes in difficult areas, and gradually raising the standards from level 1 to level 2 for qualified communes and districts.

At the same time, propaganda work was promoted to raise awareness of Party committees, authorities and people about the meaning and importance of literacy. The movement "All people study, all society participates in developing education" was strongly promoted, contributing to maintaining the sustainability of the results of XMC.

Educational institutions continue to effectively advise local authorities on the socialization of education. Thereby, mobilizing the participation of associations and unions in the work of universalizing education and training. Not only that, regulations on reporting, meetings, and information updates are implemented seriously and promptly, ensuring unified direction and supervision from the province to the grassroots.

With the attention of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the participation of the whole society and the sense of responsibility of the teaching staff, the work of eliminating illiteracy in Gia Lai is expected to continue to develop sustainably. Thereby, contributing to improving people's knowledge, building a learning society and comprehensive human development.

During the 5 years of implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development, the work of eliminating illiteracy (XMC) continued to receive attention from localities, implemented synchronously and achieved many positive results. The whole country mobilized more than 260 thousand people to participate in illiteracy eradication training, an average of over 52 thousand students per year. The force of teachers, collaborators and community learning centers, continuing education centers, vocational education - continuing education centers have promoted efficiency, proactively opened classes, surveyed, assigned teaching, especially in difficult areas, border areas, and ethnic minority areas.
