Chairwoman of Gia Lam District People's Committee Dang Thi Huyen shared that Gia Lam is proud to be the hometown of Saint Giong and Saint Chu Dong Tu - two of the "Four Immortals" according to Vietnamese folk beliefs and many other famous figures, such as: Queen Mother Y Lan, Queen of the North Le Ngoc Han, Poet Cao Ba Quat...

Gia Lam also owns 320 historical, cultural and revolutionary relics, including 1 special national relic site of Phu Dong Temple; 64 relics ranked at national level, 89 relics ranked at city level and 100 traditional festivals, of which the Giong festival was recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, the Chu Xa communal house festival was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage...

In particular, the district has 4 tourist destinations recognized by the city, including: Bat Trang, Phu Dong, Duong Xa, Kim Lan.

With its own potential and strengths, Gia Lam always focuses on arousing the tradition of national pride, helping people, especially the young generation, understand more about local history, about famous people, heroes of the nation. The Department of Education and Training of Gia Lam district and the Party Committee, government, and people of communes and towns always pay attention to directing and coordinating with schools to implement the topic "Education on local cultural heritage and historical relics at historical - cultural relics in the area"; organize topics, lessons, propaganda activities, promotion, introduction of historical relics, cultural heritage in many diverse forms.

Typically, in Duong Xa commune, in March 2025, the Organizing Committee of Ba Tam Temple Festival coordinated with Duong Xa Primary School to organize a traditional education program to introduce and learn about the life and career of Queen Mother Y Lan through the historical comic book "Nguyen Phi Y Lan - supporting the king, helping the country" by the Vietnam Education Publishing House.

Principal of Duong Xa Primary School Do Thi Kim Hue said that the school always focuses on integrating history education and local history. The school organizes a Reading Culture Day on the occasion of Vietnam Book Day every year to introduce the history and cultural celebrities of the nation to the whole school, typically the historical comic book "Nguyen Phi Y Lan - supporting the king, helping the country" in two languages: Vietnamese and English...

In particular, Duong Xa Primary School has the advantage of promoting this content, which is the Ba Tam Temple Festival held annually in the locality. The school also established the model "Y Lan Temple through STEAM activities", inviting teachers from schools in the Nam Duong cluster and sister units to participate. This is the effort, the contribution of the school's efforts and intelligence to make students more proud of their hometown Duong Xa, which has an outstanding woman with both talent and beauty in history.

Meanwhile, in Phu Dong commune, the birthplace of Saint Giong - one of the "Four Immortals" of Vietnamese folklore, the dissemination of national identity to the younger generation has always been a concern of the local government and schools. According to Principal of Phu Dong Secondary School Doi Dang Han, the school has developed lessons for students to learn about the Phu Dong Temple Special National Monument Complex and the Giong Festival. The lessons are fully prepared by the school teachers with equipment, videos, festival images, teaching aids and some festival costumes...

Through the implementation of the local history education topic, it has created interest and desire for students to learn about the Phu Dong Temple Complex and the Giong Festival - a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. This is one of the largest festivals in the Northern Delta region.

Cultural heritage is a product of historical, cultural and scientific value, which has been handed down and is an invaluable asset of the nation. Promoting the value of cultural and historical heritage in the area has always been a focus of Gia Lam district.

Vice Chairwoman of Duong Xa Commune People's Committee Pham Thi Thuy added that Duong Xa was recognized as a tourist destination of the city from the end of 2023. The whole commune has 18 relics, including 13 historical - cultural relics at the national and city levels; 1 location has a sign of the revolutionary resistance relic; 2 artifacts at the relic site worshiping Queen Mother Y Lan were decided by the Prime Minister to be recognized as national treasures... With the goal of building Duong Xa into an attractive cultural and tourist destination of the capital, the commune is constantly improving the quality and form of promoting the image of relics and local tourism. Every resident in Duong Xa can become a local tour guide. The commune also requested the district to propose to the Department of Tourism and travel companies to survey, build and deploy new tourism product models, tours and routes, connecting with Duong Xa and traditional craft villages, Phu Dong, Ninh Hiep, Bat Trang eco-zones... to diversify tourism products and programs.

Actively participating in the work of preserving and promoting the value of historical and cultural heritage, since 2022, Women's Unions at all levels in Gia Lam district have focused on implementing many practical activities, contributing to the construction of model relic sites, tourist attractions, and scenic spots.

Typically, the model of "Model scenic spots and historical relics" was implemented at 3 locations including: Phu Dong Temple National Special Relic Site, Queen Mother Y Lan Relic Site and Bat Trang Pottery Village. Along with that, the District Women's Union has built 2 sections "Gia Lam - Heritage Journey" and "Weekend Appointment with Gia Lam" to further enhance the role of Women's Unions at all levels in preserving and promoting cultural beauty, heritage values, traditional historical relics of the locality, promoting tourism potential...

Vice Chairman of Gia Lam District People's Committee Truong Van Hoc affirmed that when coming to Gia Lam, tourists have the opportunity to admire and explore 320 historical and cultural relics, visit and experience many typical traditional festivals, such as: Giong Festival, Ba Tam Temple Festival, Chu Dong Tu Festival... Many tourism products and programs are exploited, attracting tourists, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the district. According to statistics for the years 2023 and 2024, each year Gia Lam welcomes about 650,000 visitors to visit and experience...

To carry out the task of preserving and promoting historical and cultural values, it is necessary for the Party Committees and authorities at all levels to direct and implement to turn "cultural resources" into high-value products, contributing to local socio-economic development.
