In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices remained unchanged compared to the end of the week. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), currently 5% standard rice is at 395 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 368 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 323 USD/ton.
According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, rice exports in March 2025 reached 950 thousand tons, worth about 463.6 million USD. In the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 2.2 million tons of rice, reaching a turnover of 1.14 billion USD, up 0.6% in volume but down 19.7% in value compared to the same period in 2024.
In the first quarter of 2025, the Philippines remained Vietnam's largest rice consumer market with a market share of 42.1%. Ivory Coast and Ghana were the next two largest markets with market shares of 16.3% and 10.2%, respectively. The Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines forecast that the Philippines' rice import demand in 2025 would remain high. Vietnam would continue to be the Philippines' leading rice exporter.
In April 2025, Vietnam's rice exports recorded a recovery in price after a sharp decline at the beginning of the year. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the current price of 5% broken rice from Vietnam has increased compared to the beginning of 2025 but is still at 395 USD/ton - 10 USD/ton lower than the same type of rice from Thailand, but 16 USD/ton and 8 USD/ton higher than India and Pakistan, respectively. However, the increase in Vietnam's rice export price in the coming time is still not really positive due to being influenced by market demand and supply.
Agricultural experts believe that in order to improve capacity and export value, domestic enterprises need to continue to proactively diversify markets, increase rice exports to new markets such as Europe, the US, Japan, the Middle East, West Asia, Africa, etc. At the same time, take advantage of free trade agreements to enjoy tariff incentives and conquer and increase rice exports to new markets.
