DNVN - The agricultural market on February 14, 2025 recorded a sharp increase in coffee when it reached an average of 132,900 VND/kg, an increase of 2,100 VND/kg compared to yesterday. In contrast, pepper continued to plummet with a decrease of about 2,000 VND/kg depending on the region, currently the pepper price has dropped to 160,000 VND/kg.
Coffee price developments
On the London floor, at 5:00 a.m. on February 14, 2025, the price of Robusta coffee decreased slightly compared to the previous day, adjusted from 23 - 33 USD/ton, trading in the range of 5667 - 5794 USD/ton. Specifically, the contract price for delivery in March 2025 reached 5794 USD/ton (down 23 USD/ton), the contract for May 2025 recorded 5788 USD/ton (down 33 USD/ton), the contract for July 2025 dropped to 5740 USD/ton (down 25 USD/ton) and the contract for September 2025 was at 5667 USD/ton (down 29 USD/ton).
On the contrary, on the New York floor, Arabica coffee continued its upward trend, with the increase ranging from 0.90 - 7.10 cents/lb, currently trading in the range of 408.20 - 438.90 cents/lb. Specifically, the March 2025 contract reached 438.90 cents/lb (up 7.10 cents/lb), May 2025 reached 425.10 cents/lb (up 4.90 cents/lb), July 2025 reached 408.20 cents/lb (up 0.90 cents/lb). The September 2025 contract alone decreased to 392.10 cents/lb (down 3.80 cents/lb).
In the last trading session, Brazilian Arabica coffee had quite strong adjustments, specifically: the contract for delivery in March 2025 reached 523.45 USD/ton (down 5.75 USD/ton), May 2025 at 505.80 USD/ton (down 13.95 USD/ton), July 2025 slightly increased to 515.45 USD/ton (up 1.20 USD/ton) and the contract for September 2025 was 480.95 USD/ton (down 11.90 USD/ton).
Updated at 5:00 a.m. this morning, February 14, 2025, domestic coffee prices skyrocketed, reaching an average of VND 132,900/kg, VND 2,100/kg higher than the previous day.
In the Central Highlands, the highest coffee purchase price reached 133,000 VND/kg. Specifically, the coffee price in Dak Lak was recorded at 133,000 VND/kg (up 2,200 VND/kg), in Lam Dong it was 132,000 VND/kg (up 2,200 VND/kg), in Gia Lai it reached 132,800 VND/kg (up 2,000 VND/kg), and Dak Nong also reached 133,000 VND/kg (up 2,000 VND/kg).
The domestic price is currently much different from the world price, causing many gardeners to expect that the purchase price may continue to increase, with an expected increase of about 10,000 VND/kg.
Coffee exports in Brazil, the world's largest producer, have yet to show signs of improvement through January 2025. The Brazilian Coffee Exporters Association (Cecafe) reported exports of 238,800 tonnes, down 1.3% year-on-year.
In Vietnam, the world's second largest coffee exporter, the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA) recorded coffee exports in January 2025 at 149,202 tons, a sharp decrease of 28.1%.
This development is considered the main factor driving the skyrocketing coffee prices, setting records in both price and export turnover. Many investors also poured capital into this market due to attractive profits, pushing coffee prices to astonishing levels.
Pepper price developments
Domestic pepper prices updated at 5:00 a.m. on February 14, 2025 continued to decrease sharply, losing about 2,000 VND/kg in many localities. Currently, pepper prices have dropped to 160,000 VND/kg, with the average purchase price nationwide reaching 159,400 VND/kg.
Specifically, in Gia Lai , pepper prices turned down sharply after many previous increases, losing 2,500 VND/kg, currently trading at 159,000 VND/kg.
Similarly, in Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong, pepper prices were adjusted down by VND2,000/kg compared to the previous trading session, to VND159,000/kg and VND160,000/kg, respectively.
Pepper price in Ba Ria - Vung Tau also decreased by 2,000 VND/kg, currently being purchased at 159,000 VND/kg.
In Dak Lak, pepper prices continued to plummet, down another 2,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently recording a purchase price of 160,000 VND/kg.
World pepper prices move positively
According to the update from the International Pepper Community (IPC) at 5:00 a.m. on February 14, 2025, the world pepper market became more vibrant as prices tended to increase again. Pepper prices in Brazil recorded a sharp increase of 100 USD/ton, while Indonesia also had a slight increase, while other countries maintained high prices.
Specifically, IPC listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at 7,258 USD/ton (up 7 USD/ton), the price of Muntok white pepper reached 10,019 USD/ton (up 9 USD/ton) compared to the previous trading session.
The Malaysian market maintains stable prices at high levels, with Malaysian ASTA black pepper currently trading at $9,000/ton and ASTA white pepper at $11,600/ton.
In Brazil, pepper prices continued to increase by 100 USD/ton compared to the previous session, currently reaching 6,800 USD/ton.
Vietnam's pepper exports remained stable and showed signs of slight increase. Specifically, Vietnam's black pepper 500 g/l exported at 6,500 USD/ton, 550 g/l at 6,650 USD/ton, white pepper traded at 9,550 USD/ton.
In the domestic market, pepper prices increased sharply after the Lunar New Year holiday but are showing signs of decreasing in the coming time due to new supply gradually being added.
Although pepper prices today tend to decrease, consumption demand remains high, especially from large markets such as the United States and China, causing the price range to fluctuate by 10-15% in the coming time.
