Coffee prices fall across the board
At the London exchange, at 5:00 a.m. on May 29, 2025, Robusta coffee prices continued to be under strong downward pressure with a decrease of 104 - 145 USD/ton compared to the previous session, bringing the price to around 4,443 - 4,686 USD/ton. Of which, the contract price for delivery in July 2025 was recorded at 4,592 USD/ton; September 2025 was 4,566 USD/ton; November 2025 was 4,530 USD/ton and January 2026 was 4,469 USD/ton.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the Arabica coffee market this morning suddenly reversed and fell sharply, with a decrease of 9.20 - 9.75 cents/lb compared to the previous session, fluctuating between 339.00 - 360.05 cents/lb. Specifically, the July 2025 futures traded at 351.95 cents/lb; September 2025 at 349.85 cents/lb; December 2025 at 345.65 cents/lb and March 2026 at 340.65 cents/lb.
After the end of the session, the price of Brazilian Arabica coffee also decreased by 2.80 - 12.15 USD/ton compared to the previous session, fluctuating between 426.90 - 451.50 USD/ton. Specifically, the July 2025 term reached 451.00 USD/ton; September 2025 was 431.10 USD/ton; December 2025 recorded 422.30 USD/ton and March 2026 was 426.90 USD/ton.
Domestic coffee prices are also under pressure.
In the domestic market, as of 5:00 a.m. on May 29, 2025, coffee prices in the Central Highlands region fell sharply again, with a decrease of 1,500 - 1,600 VND/kg compared to yesterday's increase. The average price in key localities is currently around 122,200 VND/kg.
Specifically, the coffee purchase price in Dak Lak is 122,200 VND/kg; in Lam Dong it is 121,700 VND/kg; in Gia Lai it is 122,200 VND/kg and in Dak Nong it is 122,300 VND/kg.
The reason for the decline in coffee prices is the abundant supply and high inventories on international exchanges. Specifically, by May 27, the Arabica inventory monitored by ICE had reached 892,468 bags, the highest level in nearly 4 months. Robusta inventory also increased sharply, reaching 5,438 lots - the highest level in 8 months. This context caused domestic coffee prices to continue to fall, although Arabica showed signs of a slight recovery, because Robusta still dominated the downward trend in the global market.
Coffee production situation in Mexico and Peru
In Mexico, the USDA report maintained its forecast for coffee production in the 2024-2025 crop year at 3.87 million bags, including 3.53 million bags of Arabica and 340,000 bags of Robusta. In the 2025-2026 crop year, production is forecast to increase slightly to 3.91 million bags thanks to high international prices, promoting production investment. The country's green coffee exports are expected to reach 1.35 million bags. Meanwhile, to meet domestic demand of about 3.15 million bags, Mexico may have to import 1.93 million bags, up more than 4% compared to the previous year.
In Peru, coffee production is also forecast to increase in 2025-26. Wet-processed Arabica production is expected to reach 4.2 million bags, up 8.2%. With domestic consumption at only 300,000 bags, most of the output will be exported. Despite its large area, Peru’s average yield is only 721 kg/ha, which is still quite low. However, if international coffee prices remain positive, Peru can increase productivity through investment in technology and agricultural inputs, opening up opportunities for increased coffee supply in the future.
