Improve production efficiency
Can Tho City has 59/72 new rural communes, 13/59 advanced new rural communes, 2/13 model new rural communes. Effectively exploiting potentials and strengths, localities have formed concentrated commodity production areas associated with raw material areas; built modern agricultural production models; focused on developing organic agriculture, applying high technology... Thereby creating an important foundation for sustainable development of the locality.

In An Thanh commune, some safe and environmentally friendly production models such as fruit gardens combined with eco -tourism and clean aquaculture have brought about practical results. The application of high technology in agricultural production is increasingly expanding, farmers boldly apply water-saving irrigation systems, greenhouses, humidity sensors, and environmental monitoring systems in production. Some cooperatives and households have linked with enterprises in production and consumption according to the value chain. Accordingly, 16 concentrated areas with 139 hectares have been formed, of which 4 production areas follow the VietGAP process; 34 export growing area codes with 259.8 hectares have been granted.
Lieu Tu commune is interested in implementing new rural models and high-tech agriculture, achieving many outstanding results. Accordingly, the area of aromatic rice and specialty rice cultivation is about 3,777 hectares, accounting for over 70% of the total rice area of the commune. High-tech brackish water shrimp farming models in tarpaulin-lined ponds, applying advanced farming processes in the direction of intensive and super-intensive farming on a pond area of about 30 hectares, contributing to increasing productivity and profits. The commune is implementing ecological agricultural models, applying high technology such as the agricultural tourism model with an area of about 25 hectares; a model of linking production and consumption of organic rice on an area of 136 hectares...
Truong Long commune has 2,632 hectares of fruit gardens, with varieties that bring high economic efficiency such as star apple, durian, seedless lemon... The commune promotes the conversion of crop structure to suit the soil, builds specialized areas, and produces according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP processes. Currently, the commune has 2 concentrated raw material areas for key agricultural products with a total area of 85 hectares. Mr. Nguyen Vu Linh in Truong Khuong A hamlet, Truong Long commune, has 1 hectare of garden growing Lo Ren star apple and pink avocado star apple, earning an annual profit of about 300 million VND. Mr. Nguyen Vu Linh said: "Thanks to the implementation of the VietGAP production process, star apples are covered with specialized bags, strictly following the production process, so the fruit is of good quality and is purchased by businesses for export".
Sustainable development
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, by September 2025, the city will maintain and implement a large-scale field model with a total area of 84,819 hectares associated with consumption linkages. Forming typical branded products and concentrated production areas with an area of over 40,000 hectares, achieving an output of nearly 500,000 tons including Ha Chau strawberries, durian, Hoa Loc mango, longan, star apple, pineapple... The specialized area for growing vegetables and short-term industrial crops is concentrated on over 10,000 hectares including sugarcane, purple onions and various vegetables, with an output of over 160,000 tons. The city has 2,097 hectares certified to meet VietGAP standards, 100 hectares to meet GlobalGAP standards... There are 751 hectares of fruit trees certified to VietGAP standards, 16.1 hectares to meet GlobalGAP standards and 24 hectares of vegetables certified to meet VietGAP standards. There are 34 livestock farms according to VietGAHP standards...
According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, promoting the advantages of localities, the Department allocates targets from cultivation to livestock and aquaculture in accordance with strengths. Accordingly, over the first 9 months of 2025, the growth rate of the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.58%, exceeding the set plan (3.53%), contributing 0.85 percentage points to the overall growth of the city's economy.
In the coming time, the city's agricultural sector will continue to promote the development of high-tech agriculture, smart agriculture, circular agriculture, environmentally friendly and adaptable to climate change, and build brands for specialty agricultural products. In addition, it will strengthen research, transfer and application of science and technology, and apply digital technology in management, production direction, and promote product transactions through e-commerce platforms.
Aiming at sustainable agricultural production associated with new rural construction, localities focus on exploiting potentials and strengths more effectively. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Chairman of Truong Long Commune People's Committee, said: The commune continues to promote agricultural restructuring from breadth to depth to improve product quality and value. Exploit and improve land use efficiency on the basis of converting inefficient crops to highly efficient crops. The commune focuses on developing high-tech agriculture, building key agricultural products certified for production according to standards such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP... to replicate the model. Focus on supporting the implementation of projects linking production and product consumption according to product value chains in the area.
