Good news
At the end of October 2025, Quang Nam College in Dong Giang commune launched its first vocational training course for people in mountainous areas. Based on student demand, the school offers two majors: High-Tech Agriculture and Tourism Business Management, with 140 students, all children of the Co Tu ethnic minority in Dong Giang commune, enrolled.
Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phuong Anh, Principal of Quang Nam College, said that these two classes were organized based on a request from the People's Committee of Dong Giang commune, with the goal of supplementing human resources and contributing to the promotion of tourism and agriculture in the locality. According to the plan, the course will last approximately two years. Lecturers from Quang Nam College will teach in the locality. The learning location is the Dong Giang Commune Political Training Center, creating favorable conditions for students in terms of transportation and study.

Students will have the opportunity to practice and intern in high-quality businesses and reputable corporations. In particular, the course will focus on training and supplementing knowledge in digital transformation, helping learners meet job requirements in the new era. Graduates will receive a formal intermediate-level diploma to enter the labor market. According to the leadership of Quang Nam College, if graduates wish to work in other localities, the school will assist in connecting and introducing them to reputable businesses.
According to Mr. Da Lay Luc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Giang commune, the opening of the vocational training course is an effective solution to help young people in mountainous areas have the opportunity to study and hone their vocational skills to participate in the labor market in the new era. This is also a foundation for people to start businesses, develop family economies, and legitimately enrich themselves in their hometowns, contributing to building sustainable new rural areas.
Em BNướch Thị Thảo (born in 2003, Đông Giang commune) shared: “Most of my friends and I here come from disadvantaged families. Going to school far from home is not easy due to difficult transportation and high costs. The fact that Quang Nam College is opening vocational training classes right here in our locality opens up a great opportunity for students and young people in mountainous areas to study locally without having to travel far, which is very convenient for us.”

Improving the quality of human resources in mountainous areas.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phuong Anh, for mountainous communes to develop sustainably, it is necessary to focus on training and improving the quality of local human resources. Sending officials and workers from urban and lowland areas to support mountainous areas is only a temporary solution. Mountainous communes are severely lacking in high-quality human resources. The university has identified one of its important tasks in the coming time as supporting vocational training in mountainous communes to improve the knowledge, skills, and expertise of workers, serving socio-economic development.
In Tra Tap commune, the local government has identified vocational training and job creation for residents, especially young workers, as crucial solutions for sustainable poverty reduction. According to Ngo Tan Lac, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune, a review of the villages revealed that over 300 people of working age with a 9th-12th grade education need vocational training and employment. To improve the quality of the workforce, the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune recently collaborated with Quang Nam College and Thuan An DMC Company to organize a training and recruitment counseling session for overseas employment, attracting many participants. As a result, three applications for overseas employment and 25 applications for vocational training were received.
Representatives from Quang Nam College stated that they will continue to organize more recruitment sessions to recruit a sufficient number of students, aiming to open vocational training classes in Tra Tap commune as soon as possible. Accordingly, the two main fields of study currently being offered are High-Tech Agriculture and Tourism Business Management. In the coming years, depending on student demand, the school will consider opening additional fields such as Environmental Resource Management, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, English, etc.
Thaco College is also collaborating with mountainous communes to recruit, train, and provide employment opportunities for workers. In Tay Giang commune, Thaco College aims to recruit 40-50 workers annually to receive vocational training and work at the Thaco Group. After completing the training course, workers will sign contracts with a starting salary of 7 million VND/month for those with basic qualifications and 8 million VND/month for those with college-level qualifications, along with insurance and other benefits.
According to Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tay Giang commune, the commune will intensify propaganda efforts to encourage a large number of people to participate in vocational training; at the same time, it will urgently complete the necessary documents and procedures, creating the best conditions for children of ethnic minorities in the area to learn vocational skills and work at Thaco Group, opening up sustainable job opportunities and contributing to improving the income and living standards of people in mountainous areas.
