Changes in poverty reduction efforts in Krông Nô commune

Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Krong No commune, said that one of the important foundations for sustainable poverty reduction in the locality is investment in basic infrastructure. In the period from 2020 to 2024 alone, the locality was assigned by the People's Committee of Lak district (formerly) to be the investor for 14 projects to renovate, upgrade, and repair roads in the area with a total capital of 10.7 billion VND from national target programs.

To date, the entire commune has access to the national power grid, with 100% of households using electricity for lighting; 75% of inter-village and internal field roads have been concreted; small-scale irrigation works meet nearly 60% of the annual irrigation needs for crops; and the commune has achieved 13 out of 19 criteria for building new rural areas. Improved infrastructure not only facilitates travel, trade, and the transportation of agricultural products but also encourages people to boldly switch to larger-scale and more efficient production models.

Local leaders visited a successful durian farming model in the area.

Along with infrastructure investment, livelihood support through assistance with seedlings, livestock, preferential loans, etc., for poor and near-poor households is considered an important "lever" for the locality to implement poverty reduction work in recent years.

Furthermore, local authorities regularly and rotatingly organize training courses to improve production capacity, transfer scientific and technical knowledge, support vocational training, and provide direct guidance on crop care, livestock and poultry disease prevention, water-saving irrigation techniques, and organic fertilizer production in the villages. Thanks to this hands-on guidance, many households, especially ethnic minorities, have learned to apply new technical processes, reduce investment costs, increase productivity, and enhance the value of agricultural products. These households have proactively borrowed capital, renovated their orchards, intercropped valuable crops, joined cooperatives, and boldly experimented with new models to develop their family economies . This is a key factor in ensuring that poverty reduction programs in the locality are effective and have long-term benefits.

Thanks to the implementation of various poverty reduction solutions, the appearance of Krông Nô commune is constantly changing and developing.

According to Nguyen Van Huyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Krong No Commune: "During the period 2021-2025, the entire commune reduced the number of poor households by 19.9% and near-poor households by 6.6%; the average annual growth rate of total product value is 8.6%. In the coming time, the commune will prioritize livelihood support associated with technical guidance and the construction of model projects so that people can clearly see the effectiveness and boldly follow suit, with the goal of ensuring that policies are implemented correctly, and people gradually change their mindset and way of doing things and proactively rise out of poverty sustainably."
