Lesson 3: Embracing Challenges for Growth
The adjustment of the functions and responsibilities of the Children's Committee, the Youth Union Council, and related departments has caused confusion among many units in defining tasks, coordination, and reporting procedures. Some grassroots officials shared that, due to the time spent familiarizing themselves with the new model, the movement has slowed down somewhat compared to before.
Initial difficulties
Mr. Trinh Hoang Tham, Head of the Youth Union at Hang Vinh Secondary School (Nam Can commune), said: “The restructuring of the organization has reduced the number of dedicated staff, and in many places, they have to take on multiple roles, leading to increased pressure. At the school level, teachers who are also the head of the Youth Union remain the main force, but the workload has increased due to the changes in the management system. Many teachers are concerned about the adjustments to the coordination regulations, support schemes, and new reporting requirements after the merger. Many traditional Youth Union programs are facing difficulties due to adjustments to the new structure; the coordination regulations are not yet unified; and there is a lack of model examples to learn from, causing the movement in some areas to stagnate and making it difficult to maintain the usual vibrancy.”
Youth Union and Association officials are not afraid of difficulties in learning skills and building better Youth Union and Association work.
Simultaneously, the operational system from the provincial to the grassroots level must rebuild its criteria and inspection plans in the context of increasingly high demands for innovation in children's activities, especially the application of technology and organizing movements in an experiential and creative direction, linking Youth Union activities with life skills education and digital transformation in schools.
From the perspective of the psychological state of the Youth Union officials and teachers in charge of the Youth Union, many who have been involved in Youth Union work for many years are concerned about training and development opportunities after the merger; the evaluation and ranking mechanisms; and the continuous changes that may affect the quality of implementation.
Mr. Le Nguyen Le, a specialist in the Professional Affairs Department of the Provincial Children's House and Deputy Head of the Provincial Youth Skills Club, said: “ Youth Union and Association officials must be dedicated to their work, diligent, quick-witted, creative, and especially love children and empathize with young people. The current Youth Union and Association work is somewhat ‘stagnant’ due to a lack of continuity, but as young officials, we must not be discouraged; we must further develop our role in the work. The younger generation needs to maintain enthusiasm, strive to overcome difficulties to continue the tradition and advance the movement.”
Many generations of outstanding Youth Union and Association leaders in Ca Mau continue to strive to keep the flame alive and dedicate themselves to their work.
The merger is necessary to streamline the organization, but to keep the "flame" of the Youth Union, Children's Union, and Youth Association activities alive, synchronized and flexible involvement from the top down to the grassroots is needed. Only then will the youth movement continue to play its role in educating and nurturing the younger generation.
Proactively adapt and enhance your skills.
Mergers are an inevitable step towards streamlining and improving operational efficiency. With a determination to innovate and the consensus from officials to the grassroots level, the work of the Youth Union and Youth Association can completely transform difficulties into momentum, opening up a new phase of development - sustainable, dynamic, and suitable for the digital age.
Comrade Pham Van Su, a member of the Party Committee's Inspection Committee of Khanh Lam commune and former Chairman of the Youth Union Council of Khanh Hoi commune (formerly), shared: "Many years of dedication to Youth Union and Youth Association work have given me wonderful experiences of youth, vibrant summers, meaningful youth projects, and the innocent smiles of children in poor rural areas. Each activity, each journey has left me with pride and gratitude, because it is not just work, but a passion, a life ideal, a youthful dedication to the Fatherland and my homeland."
" Now, as Khanh Lam commune enters a new phase after the merger, I feel more strongly than ever the responsibility to pass on the torch to the younger generation. This change is an opportunity to renew thinking, promote the spirit of unity, creativity, and aspiration for progress, so that our homeland can move steadily forward on the path of stronger, more civilized, and modern development ," Comrade Su shared .
The remaining Youth Union and Association officials are still striving to learn.
During the transition period, many team leaders and grassroots officials continued to work overtime, self-study techniques, and proactively adapt to new models to ensure the program ran smoothly and engagingly.
Comrade Trinh Hong Muoi, a member of the Party Committee's Inspection Committee of Nguyen Phich commune, former Secretary of the Youth Union and Chairman of the Children's Council of U Minh town (formerly), shared: "My time as a Youth Union, Youth Association, and Children's Council official has helped me mature a great deal, from my way of speaking and doing to my way of life; it was the most precious period of my youth. Currently, I see many young people with abilities but lacking opportunities to showcase them; the Youth Union and Youth Association need to boldly assign tasks and give them work so that they can grow from practical experience."
The change in organizational model also creates momentum for innovation in working methods: applying digital transformation; experiential activities linked to STEM; training life skills; volunteering for the community... creating a more modern and relevant image to the needs of students.
Thanks to the Youth Union and Association officials, many generations of outstanding members have been given the impetus to develop.
Embracing challenges to grow is not just a slogan, but the spirit that every Youth Union, Young Pioneers, and Youth Association official is demonstrating every day, so that the children's movement continues to be maintained and spread.
Mr. Tran Dang Khoa, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, emphasized: " In this new phase, grassroots Youth Union, Young Pioneers, and Youth Association officials need to acquire more new skills to meet practical demands. First and foremost is a firm political stance, a sense of responsibility, and dedication to youth work. Along with that, they need modern knowledge, digital skills, and the ability to apply technology in management, communication, and organizing activities. Furthermore, the capacity for innovation, communication skills, persuasion, and mobilizing young people are also crucial. Each official needs to continuously learn and train to truly build a team of Youth Union, Young Pioneers, and Youth Association officials who are both politically sound and professionally competent, capable of adapting and leading the younger generation to integrate into the new era ."
