Anorectal diseases are common in today's life. Many studies show that colorectal cancer accounts for 10% of cancer diseases; hemorrhoids affect nearly 50% of the population.

On October 19, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Colorectal Association held the 11th National Scientific Conference in 2024 with the participation of leading experts, scientists, and colorectal specialists from military and civilian medical facilities across the country.

Major General, Professor, Dr. Le Huu Song, Director of 108 Central Military Hospital spoke at the Workshop.

Major General, Professor, Dr. Le Huu Song, Director of 108 Central Military Hospital, said that the 11th National Anorectal Scientific Conference this year gathered more than 500 leading experts, managers, leaders, scientists, and anorectal specialists from medical facilities, including military and civilian medical facilities across the country.

The conference aims to connect and share the latest research, results of advanced technical applications, experiences in diagnosing and treating anorectal diseases..., thereby finding the most positive treatment solutions for patients.

Regarding anorectal diseases, unhealthy lifestyle, unscientific living habits, unhygienic and irregular eating habits, frequent consumption of spicy and hot foods, and low-fiber diets for a long time are risk factors that change the disease pattern, causing the disease rate to increase.

In particular, with the development of modern life, the pressure of work, family, and society is increasing, causing the rate of these diseases to increase and tend to be younger.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Le Manh Cuong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, Chairman of the Vietnam Anorectal Association, anorectal diseases are one of the common diseases in life today and are on the rise, from simple diseases such as hemorrhoids, constipation, inability to defecate... to more complex diseases such as anal cancer, rectal cancer. If not detected and treated promptly, the disease will cause complications, even endangering life.

Notably, in Vietnam, colorectal cancer is one of the 10 most common cancers with cancer-related mortality ranking 5th in both men and women.

According to statistics from the Global Cancer Organization (Globocan) 2020, Vietnam has about 14,000 new cases of colorectal cancer and 7,000 deaths from this group of diseases each year.

However, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Manh Cuong said that diseases related to the anus and rectum are considered "difficult to talk about" so people are afraid to go to the doctor and share with him. Many people go online and search for information for treatment. This is extremely dangerous.

In fact, there have been cases of self-treatment following instructions on the internet that have led to complications, necrosis and the need for colostomy. Therefore, our advice is to absolutely not believe in and follow unscientific treatment methods that are spread on social networks.

Based on many years of experience treating patients in this field, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Manh Cuong said that currently, the combination of modern medicine and traditional medicine in the treatment of anorectal diseases is very effective. If only modern medicine or only traditional medicine is used in the treatment of these diseases, it cannot be optimally effective.

With modern medicine, minimally invasive techniques and procedures have been applied to help minimize pain and shorten recovery time for patients.

Such as laparoscopic surgery and using robots to cut polyps, using lasers to reduce the size of hemorrhoids, tying hemorrhoids with rubber bands, treating hemorrhoids with infrared photocoagulation, and sclerotherapy.

Medical experts recommend that to prevent anorectal diseases, people need to eat foods high in fiber, drink plenty of water, do not smoke, drink alcohol, do not put strong pressure when defecating, avoid sitting for long periods of time and exercise regularly.

To prevent anorectal diseases, medical experts also recommend that people eat foods high in fiber, drink plenty of water, do not smoke or drink alcohol, do not put pressure on the bowels, avoid sitting for long periods of time and exercise regularly...
