Experts said that today's pepper market broke all predictions that prices could increase due to increased supply. Previously, some experts warned that parties in the market should pay attention to the price of 150,000 VND/kg, if this level is "broken", pepper prices could face a deep price drop.

However, the Import-Export Department believes that world pepper prices remain high due to limited supply after the harvest, along with expectations of improved demand in Europe and the Middle East in the second quarter. However, the main trend remains sideways.

In Vietnam, the downward pressure on prices comes from weak purchasing power and cautious sentiment. The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that many farmers are no longer interested in investing more, as costs are getting higher but selling prices are not attractive enough.

Instead, some have switched to growing higher value crops such as durian and avocado. The expansion of pepper acreage is also limited by the increasingly narrowing land fund.

VPSA believes that this is the time for Vietnamese pepper exporting enterprises to seek out markets with low market share, while promoting access to potential markets through trade promotion activities and participation in fairs and exhibitions in many countries.

In particular, for markets with high standards, strict quality requirements but good profit margins, businesses must pay more attention to quality control to improve product stability and adaptability to market fluctuations.
