According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the first half of April 2025, Vietnam exported 11,291 tons of pepper, reaching a turnover of 78.4 million USD. Compared to the second half of March, the export volume decreased by 1.6% and the value decreased by 2.9%. However, compared to the same period last year, the output decreased by 16.2% but the value increased sharply by 34.2%.
From the beginning of the year to April 15, Vietnam exported 58,561 tons of pepper, earning 403 million USD. Although output decreased sharply by 16.6% compared to the same period in 2024, export value still increased by 37%.
The average export price since the beginning of the year has reached 6,882 USD/ton, up 64.3% over the previous year. In the first half of April alone, the average price reached 6,947 USD/ton, down only 1.3% compared to the end of March, but still 60% higher than the same period last year.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), although pepper prices have increased this year, the replanting area has not increased significantly due to a lack of new land and farmers prioritizing the cultivation of crops with higher economic value. Therefore, the pepper production area in 2025 is expected to be difficult to expand.
Pepper exports in the second quarter and the coming period are expected to face many difficulties. High pepper prices put financial pressure on exporters and importers, while changes in US tax policies also affect long-distance delivery contracts.
To maintain export momentum, businesses need to step up access to the EU, India, and Middle East markets, while investing in deep processing and building brands for Vietnamese pepper products.
