Proud of Vietnam - Honoring the land of learning Ha Nam
According to official information from the Ministry of Education and Training on June 3, 2025, all four Vietnamese students participating in the second Abu Rayhan Beruni International Chemistry Olympiad (ARBIChO) won medals. Among them, Do Trung Kien, a student at Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted (Ha Nam), won the Gold Medal and was the contestant with the highest total score of the contest (absolute winner), a particularly impressive achievement.
Along with Kien, two other students, Nguyen The Minh ( Hanoi Amsterdam High School) and Trinh Duc Anh (Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted), also won gold medals; Trinh Viet Hoang (Ha Long High School for the Gifted, Quang Ninh) won silver medals. This year's competition attracted 111 contestants from 14 countries, organized according to the official format of the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), with two rounds of theory and practice, each lasting 5 hours.
Among the gold medal winners, Do Trung Kien was the one who achieved the absolute score, and was also the candidate with the highest theoretical score of the exam, which is a testament to his courage, scientific thinking and solid practical skills.
It is known that Kien has been a student of a specialized school since grade 6 and has spent 7 years studying, training and nurturing at Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted, a school famous for its tradition of studiousness and high achievements in national and international competitions for excellent students. Kien's achievements are not only the pride of Ha Nam but also contribute to making Vietnamese students famous in the international intellectual arena.
The persistent journey of nurturing talent and shining
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hang, Principal of Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted, could not hide her emotion: “This is truly a great happiness for Kien, his family, and the entire school’s teachers and friends. He has brought great honor to Ha Nam at this historic moment.”
She also said that the school has not been able to contact Kien after the live award ceremony in Uzbekistan, but "perhaps he is now completely happy after a challenging and glorious journey."
The ARBIChO exam will be held every two years from 2023, hosted by the Ministry of Preschool and General Education of Uzbekistan. This is also a preparation step for the International Chemistry Olympiad IChO 2026, which Uzbekistan will host. This year, the exam is considered both interesting and difficult, including 2 practical tests (20 points each) and 8 theoretical questions (7.5 points each), requiring candidates not only to have a solid grasp of knowledge but also to be creative and courageous.
An interesting point is that the head of the Vietnamese delegation this year – Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Quoc Trung, Vice President of the Vietnam Chemistry Teaching Association, lecturer at Hanoi National University of Education, is also a former student of Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted. The inspiring return of an excellent former student, along with Kien’s resounding achievements, has created a beautiful milestone in the history of Ha Nam’s leading specialized school.
From a young student in Phu Ly city, Ha Nam, Do Trung Kien has reached the pinnacle of knowledge, affirming Vietnamese spirit in the international arena. He is an ideal role model for today's young generation of students, passionate about learning, firmly integrating and full of aspirations to conquer the top.
