According to experts, domestic and world pepper prices are moving in opposite directions, reflecting the imbalance between supply and demand in the context of climate change and changes in production.
In the short term, pepper purchasing prices may continue to fluctuate within a narrow range, depending on the export speed and the stockpiling trend of processing enterprises as well as international traders.
According to experts, while Vietnam's pepper export volume has been continuously decreasing, its main competitors, especially Indonesia, have recorded strong growth. Recent export growth shows the great potential of the Indonesian pepper industry in the global market.
Farmers in Gia Lai province harvest pepper. |
The domestic pepper market is entering a period of stagnation as caution prevails among growers and buyers. Unattractive selling prices and high input costs have caused many farmers to stop investing or switch to growing durian, avocado, etc., crops with higher economic value.
Meanwhile, the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) assessed that global pepper prices remain high due to limited post-harvest output and improved demand prospects in Europe, the Middle East, and China.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese enterprises are pivoting to less potential and niche markets, while strengthening quality control to meet the strict requirements of high-end markets.
