Applying a 5% band, the USD exchange rate that commercial banks are allowed to trade is from 23,701 - 26,195 VND/USD (buy - sell). Currently, many banks have applied an exchange rate close to 26,200 VND/USD.
Specifically, Vietcombank listed the USD exchange rate at 25,835 - 26,195 VND/USD, the highest level ever and 15 VND higher than the peak set on April 9.
VietinBank and BIDV also adjusted their foreign currency trading prices. After the adjustment, VietinBank bought and sold USD at 25,850 - 26,195 VND, while BIDV listed it at 25,869 - 26,195 VND/USD.
At the private commercial banking group, HDBank currently lists the greenback trading price at 25,850 - 26,195 VND/USD.
Some other banks such as ACB, Techcombank, Eximbank also increased the USD selling price to over 26,195 VND.
In the international market, at 11:00 a.m. on April 25 (Vietnam time), the USD Index (DXY - a measure of the greenback's strength against other major currencies) was at 99.76 points, up 0.36% compared to the previous session.
The world USD price recovered after US President Donald Trump abandoned the idea of firing Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and wanted to reduce taxes for China.
The dollar fell 4.8% in April alone, following the flurry of Trump tariffs, its biggest monthly decline since November 2022.
