International gold price today March 13, 2024
At 8:08 a.m. today (March 13, Vietnam time), the world spot gold price stood at around 2,157.7 USD/ounce, down 14.3 USD/ounce compared to last night. The gold futures price for April 2024 on the Comex New York floor was at 2,164.1 USD/ounce.
At 7:30 p.m. on March 12 (Vietnam time), the spot gold price on the world market today decreased to 2,172 USD/ounce. Gold for April 2024 delivery on the Comex New York floor was at 2,178 USD/ounce.
The world gold price on the night of March 12 was about 5.3% higher (109 USD/ounce) than at the end of 2023. World gold converted to the bank USD price was 65.5 million VND/tael, including taxes and fees, about 17 million VND/tael lower than the domestic gold price as of the end of the afternoon session on March 12.
The world spot gold price tends to adjust after soaring at the end of last week, at times reaching a peak of 2,195 USD/ounce. The USD recovered slightly and profit-taking pressure from gold ETFs put the precious metal under a lot of downward pressure.
Gold has stagnated as investors await the US consumer price index (CPI) report for February, scheduled to be released early on March 13 (Vietnam time).
In a survey by Dow Jones news agency, economists forecast that the US CPI in February increased 0.4% compared to January and increased 3.1% compared to the same period last year.
Inflation data often has a big impact on financial market expectations for the US Federal Reserve’s monetary policy. If inflation continues to cool, the Fed will soon cut interest rates, thereby weakening the US dollar and pushing up gold prices.
Conversely, if inflation remains high, the USD will rise again and gold will be under downward pressure.
Gold Price Forecast
In the medium and long term, the Fed will enter a rate cut cycle and precious metals will be strongly supported.
However, the market often reflects expectations ahead of time. Gold has increased sharply since the end of 2023 and in the first 2 months of 2024. The possibility of further price increases is no longer highly appreciated.
Recently, many forecasts say that gold will continue to increase in the second half of the year but at a slow pace. Most likely, the price of gold will reach 2,200 USD/ounce.
In the short term, gold may face some profit-taking pressure. Ole Hansen, chief commodity strategist at Saxo Bank, said on Kitco that while he is optimistic about gold’s prospects, investors should be sensitive to the market’s current speculative position.
The expert noted that speculative traders can reverse their positions very quickly if the market starts to turn.
