World gold price

In the world gold market, the gold price this afternoon was trading around 2,164 USD/ounce. In the Asian session this morning, the gold price was flat at around 2,162 USD/ounce. The gold futures price for April 2024 delivery on the Comex New York floor decreased by 13.3 USD, equivalent to a decrease of 0.61% to 2,167.5 USD/ounce.

Converted at the current exchange rate at Vietcombank, the world gold price is about 63,644 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is still 15,856 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

Gold briefly turned sharply lower in mid-day trading on Thursday, as a slightly higher-than-expected US inflation reading was bearish for the precious metal as it boosted the US dollar index and US Treasury yields.

In his latest market commentary, Florian Grummes, CEO at Midas Touch Consulting, said that gold’s rally above $2,200 an ounce has definitively ended a 13-year correction and consolidation period when prices were trading consistently between $1,900 and $2,075 an ounce.

“Regardless of whether the pullback is short-term or temporary, this could just signal the start of the next major uptrend in the precious metals sector,” he said, adding that while there is a risk of a pullback to the initial breakout zone around $2,075, the target for gold remains at $2,535 an ounce. Corrections should be viewed as buying opportunities.

Grummes said he expects gold to reach its target within three months. For now, the market appears to be holding initial support above $2,150 an ounce, a level that triggered significant selling in early December.
