Overall, crude oil prices recorded a second consecutive weekly gain this week as the US and China issued a Joint Statement, while gains were capped by expectations of higher supply from Iran and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+).
Meanwhile, expectations of a recovery in demand in the coming months, coupled with an easing of geopolitical tensions, are factors that balance the expected increase in supply in the short term.
Expectations of higher OPEC+ oil production, along with a higher likelihood of an Iran nuclear deal, have re-emerged as bearish trading, said Dennis Kissler, senior vice president of trading at BOK Financial.
According to this Vice President, in the near future, as geopolitical tensions cool down, seasonal travel demand will increase sharply in the coming months, to cope with the possibility of increased supply.
Oil trade remains dependent on supply dynamics, including the potential return of Iranian supplies to the market following any US-Iran deal, experts said, as easing geopolitical risks have weighed on market concerns about increased supply from OPEC members.
