On March 4th, the Ministry of Public Security responded to readers' inquiries regarding numerous social media pages claiming to be the "Cyber Security Department" or "Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department," which provide information and warnings about online scams and prevention measures; and also offer legal services to assist citizens, such as advice on recovering scammed money and support in handling cases of fraud and property theft.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the Ministry of Public Security has the function of protecting cybersecurity and combating all types of crimes that utilize high technology; it does not have the function of assisting citizens in recovering money obtained through fraud.
Currently, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department does not have an official information page (Website, Fanpage...). The Department is in the process of building an official, verified information page to limit impersonation. Regarding impersonation information, the Department is conducting reviews and verifications. Initially, it will coordinate with relevant agencies to block and filter fake links and accounts on the internet.
Recently, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department has discovered numerous Facebook pages and groups claiming to be "officers of the Cyber Security Department" and police officers from various units and localities, posting articles to help victims recover money lost to scams perpetrated by high-tech criminals. The nature of these activities is to exploit the trust of victims who want to quickly recover their assets after being scammed online, but in reality, the perpetrators will continue to lure and defraud them. This issue has attracted significant attention from the online community, causing public outrage and affecting the reputation and image of the People's Police force in general and the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department in particular.
The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department has been reviewing, verifying, and tracking down individuals impersonating the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department and the police forces of various units and localities in order to combat and handle them according to the law; at the same time, it continues to coordinate with relevant units to block, filter, and disable fake links and accounts on the internet.
Official websites of the police force on the internet all use domain names ending in .vn, such as: conganbacgiang.gov.vn, benhvien199.vn... In addition, people can check the official websites of police agencies in the "Website Links" section on the Ministry of Public Security's Electronic Information Portal at mps.gov.vn or bocongan.gov.vn. Regarding accounts on social media and OTT applications, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department is currently reviewing and will publicly release a list of these links for the public to be aware of.
