According to a VNA correspondent in Africa, a landmark initiative - the African Media Awards - will be officially launched in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa to honor journalists, creators and storytellers who are helping to shape Africa's story on the international stage.
The African Media Awards will celebrate achievements in traditional journalism, digital media and emerging forms of storytelling, with nine categories reflecting the diversity of the media sector: from reporting, interviews, documentaries to video production and social media content.
The launch of the award is seen as an important step in efforts to affirm the central role of African media on the global stage, while creating a platform to raise the voice of the continent, strengthen the capacity of the media industry and spread stories that reflect the identity, strength and potential of the African people.
The event also demonstrates Africa’s aspiration to shape its own narrative, contributing to the continent’s media position as one of the vanguards of global innovation and development.
The African Media Awards are organized by the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB) in collaboration with heritage funds and influential organizations such as the Patrice Lumumba Foundation, Kwame Nkrumah Foundation, Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, Kenneth Kaunda Foundation, Sisulu Foundation for Social Justice, PLO Lumumba Foundation and RT television./.
