Horrific stampede in India, dozens of casualties

According to Daily Mail, the horrific stampede occurred before the victory parade of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team in the IPL Cricket Championship on June 3.

Thousands of fans gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru ahead of the parade, The Indian Express reported.

However, the jubilant scene quickly turned chaotic as the crowd tried to scale the walls and gates to enter the Chinnaswamy Stadium, leading to a stampede that killed more than 10 people, including a woman and a child. In addition, more than 50 people were injured and the death toll is expected to rise.

Witnesses told the Times of India newspaper about chaotic scenes as fans rushed in from multiple gates wanting to catch a glimpse of their cricket heroes.

Several victims outside the stadium were given first aid and taken to hospital. Four died at Vydehi General Hospital, while three were declared dead on arrival at Bowring Hospital.

Stampedes are not uncommon in India. In February 2025, at least 15 people died in a stampede at a railway station in the capital New Delhi.
