Over the past years, education and training in ethnic minority and mountainous areas have always been given attention by all levels and sectors. Thanks to that, the quality of education and training in ethnic minority areas has had many positive changes, especially in ethnic boarding schools, semi-boarding schools and boarding vocational schools of the province.

Ninh Thuan Ethnic Boarding High School is one of the establishments that effectively implements the task of training human resources for ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Over the years, the staff and teachers of the school have mobilized social resources to take care of teaching well and encourage students to compete to study well. Many graduates have continued to study and become key officials of all levels, sectors and localities in the province.

Principal of Ninh Thuan Ethnic Boarding High School Dang Quang Linh said: "Thanks to the province's investment in infrastructure and support from businesses, the school now has 10 classrooms enough to organize 2 sessions/day; classrooms are equipped with computers and smart TVs to serve the application of information technology in teaching; the dormitory has 48 rooms, and the collective kitchen is qualified to serve all students of the school."

To improve the quality of teaching, the school innovates teaching methods and tests and evaluates in the direction of developing students' capacity and qualities in association with preserving national cultural identity. In addition to teaching cultural knowledge, the school also organizes life skills training and psychological counseling for students. Last school year, the whole school had 5 excellent students, 49 good students, 4 students won prizes in the provincial excellent student competition, 2 projects won fourth prizes in the provincial Science and Technology Competition for high school students; the school was recognized as an "Excellent Labor Collective".

Not only expanding the scale or improving the quality of teaching, the education sector also focuses on investing in learning conditions for ethnic minority students. Many schools have added playgrounds and sanitation facilities, creating a safe and friendly learning and living environment. Along with that, support policies for ethnic minority students such as scholarships, rice, personal items, travel and study expenses, etc. continue to be implemented.

Linking training with practical needs

Mr. Do Nhu Quynh - Principal of Khanh Son Ethnic Boarding Vocational College said: "In the 2025 - 2026 school year, the school will have more than 1,000 students, mainly Raglai children. The school trains many practical occupations, suitable for social needs and local conditions such as: Fashion sewing, construction, food processing, restaurant services, fruit tree planting, information technology... Students are entitled to scholarships from 60 to 100% of the basic salary/month according to Decision No. 53/2015 of the Prime Minister and support of 1 million VND/course, travel expenses, and staying at school during Tet. In addition, according to Resolution No. 02/2015 of the Provincial People's Council, ethnic minority students also receive an additional 840,000 VND/month. These practical policies help reduce the burden on families, creating motivation for them to study and have stable jobs. In addition to vocational training, The school also focuses on connecting with businesses, expanding job opportunities for students after graduation."

Bo Bo Phuc from Dong Khanh Son commune, a former student of Khanh Son Ethnic Boarding Vocational College, said: “During my studies, I did not have to spend any money, was cared for and taught enthusiastically by teachers, and enjoyed full boarding benefits. Thanks to the good environment and encouragement from teachers, I have more motivation to study, and now I have graduated and have a stable job.” Mau Thi Bich Nieu, a student of the school's K10 fashion sewing class, shared: “Sewing is suitable for women, the work is light, and there are no tuition fees, so I chose to study. I hope that in the future I can work at companies or open my own shop to have a stable income.”

Mr. Le Thai Truong Thi - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training said: "In the 2024 - 2025 school year, the rate of ethnic minority students attending school at all levels will reach nearly 99% and nearly 70% of working-age workers will receive vocational training. The Department has coordinated with sectors to implement sub-projects under the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the period 2021 - 2030; allocating funds to upgrade and renovate facilities of ethnic minority boarding and semi-boarding schools; organizing training in ethnic knowledge and languages; investing in teaching Cham language according to the 2018 General Education Program; training in pre-university, university and postgraduate training to meet the human resource needs of ethnic minority areas".

Practical policies and the dedication of the teaching staff are opening up opportunities for learning, employment and a bright future for ethnic minority students in the province every day, contributing to improving the quality of education in mountainous areas and preserving local cultural identity.
