Vietnam currently has the sixth largest number of international students in the US and ranks first among ASEAN countries. The overall quality of Vietnamese students is increasingly improving, reflected in academic performance and English proficiency. According to the Open Doors 2024 Report, in the 2023-2024 academic year, there will be 22,066 Vietnamese students studying at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the US, of which nearly half will choose STEM fields, contributing to promoting Vietnam's goal of developing human resources in high-tech industries.
The states with the largest number of Vietnamese students include California, Texas, Massachusetts, Washington, and New York. In the 2023–2024 school year, Vietnamese students contributed more than 1 billion USD to the US economy .
In his opening remarks at the Exhibition, US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper said: "The United States offers world- class educational opportunities. The growing number of Vietnamese students studying at US universities and colleges demonstrates their appreciation for these opportunities as well as their commitment to quality academic education. By studying in the US, Vietnamese students equip themselves with leadership skills to return to Vietnam and contribute to the country's economic development goals, especially in the high-tech sector."

Recently, the US Embassy welcomed 40 senior academic leaders from 22 US universities to Vietnam to meet with Vietnamese government officials, university representatives and the private sector in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (from March 31 to April 4). The US Embassy aims to promote international cooperation and expand partnerships between US and Vietnamese educational institutions, and continue to build these relationships by awarding initial grants for STEM-related projects that Vietnamese and US universities will jointly implement. Thanks to these programs, many Vietnamese and US educational institutions have implemented new projects as well as student exchange activities.
The United States continues to maintain its commitment to the Fulbright Program, an international educational exchange program that provides opportunities for U.S. citizens to study, teach, or conduct research abroad, and supports Vietnamese scholars and professionals pursuing these activities in the United States.
