Painter Le Lam (1931-2022) was born Vu Ai Quoc. He studied at the Vietnam College of Fine Arts (now the Vietnam University of Fine Arts ) during the resistance war against France, under the guidance of painter To Ngoc Van. The lessons in the Resistance Art class of Mr. To Ngoc Van not only equipped him with solid drawing skills in the context of the resistance war but also inspired him with the spirit of realistic art.

He left a deep impression through his vivid and realistic sketches of war. Throughout his career, Le Lam always maintained the view that realistic art is not simply about reproducing images but also must reflect the spirit and identity of the nation. Le Lam's outstanding contributions lie not only in the large number of works but also in the spiritual and historical values they bring.

He has a large body of work thanks to his diligent working style, ability to sketch quickly and his willingness to go into the field during the years of resistance. He left behind thousands of battlefield sketches, propaganda paintings and woodcuts to serve the revolutionary propaganda.

Sharing at the exhibition, Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association Luong Xuan Doan said that the life of artist Le Lam was closely linked to the southern battlefield for a decade from 1965 to 1975. He traveled throughout the provinces and cities of the South, recording thousands of sketches and paintings about daily life and soldiers on the battlefield. His works show that every second, every moment is filled with sincere emotions, finding the beauty of the Vietnamese people to preserve, even if it is just a sketch.

"It can be said that the battlefield sketches of Le Lam in particular and painters in general have created the most beautiful page for resistance sketches in contemporary Vietnamese fine arts," affirmed the Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association.

Art researcher Bui Nhu Huong commented that the legacy that Le Lam left behind is not only paintings but also a symbol of patriotism and the desire for freedom. His art is a connection between the past and the present, a reminder of the great sacrifices of his fathers' generation. This exhibition "Immortal Spring" is not only an opportunity to honor those eternal values but also a reminder that the revolutionary spirit and the desire for freedom of the Vietnamese people will forever be fresh, like the eternal spring in the hearts of every person.

The exhibition "Immortal Spring" is open until March 20, 2025 on the 1st and 2nd floors of Building B, Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi .
