Bringing the festival to the grassroots
In 2000, the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" (TDĐKXDĐSVH) in Dien Ban town was launched. Implementing the direction of the District Party Committee - People's Committee of Dien Ban district (now the town) on the policy of bringing the festival to the grassroots, Dien Quang was the first commune to organize the Thanh Minh festival.
The festival takes place from the 1st to the 10th of the third lunar month with rich content, imbued with national cultural identity, including a procession and ancestral worship ceremony of 97 clans living in the Go Noi area.
According to statistics, by the end of 2024, Dien Ban town will have 53,448 cultural families, reaching a rate of 96.1%; 140/140 cultural villages and blocks; 378 clans recognized as cultural clans; 164/169 agencies, units and enterprises meeting cultural standards.
Meanwhile, for the coastal community in Dien Duong, the fishing festival is an important cultural and spiritual event for the local people. The festival is the largest in the year, associated with the belief and wish that the god of fish will bless the fishermen with “a lot of wealth, a lot of profit, a lot of peace”.
The fishing festival and the boat singing festival have become cultural features in the coastal community, containing traditional cultural values, oriented towards the origin of the profession, organized solemnly, civilly, in accordance with local customs and practices.
The Tich Dien festival has also become a traditional festival not only for the people of Dien Tien commune but also for localities developing agriculture , held on the 1st of the 10th lunar month every year at Diem Son communal house.
In addition to praying for favorable weather, bountiful crops, and a prosperous and happy life, the festival is also an opportunity for people to participate in folk games and traditional sports .
The most popular activity was the first plowing activity, choosing a big and strong buffalo, putting a red silk cloth on its back, followed by the commune leader in farmer's clothes controlling the buffalo to the cheers of the audience.
Mr. Pham Van Ba - Head of the Department of Culture - Science and Information of Dien Ban town said: "The above festivals have truly become cultural and tourism activities, promoting the image of Dien Ban land and people to tourists. Thereby contributing to preserving, maintaining and promoting traditional cultural values, educating the younger generation to love and be proud of the land."
Replicating cultural models
Building a cultural family is the core model of the movement for building a cultural family in the town. Most families participating in the movement have well implemented the contents and standards of building a cultural family, and are self-conscious in preserving good traditional moral values such as filial piety, loyalty, respect for elders, etc. The role of women is increasingly promoted, the elderly and disabled are cared for, children are able to play and study, and their responsibility to the community and village is raised.
The model of building cultural villages and urban blocks has been implemented synchronously in 140 residential areas. The Central Government's directive documents on criteria, processes, and procedures for registering the construction and recognition of cultural villages and urban blocks have been provided in detail to each village and urban block.
The town issued many documents directing and guiding localities to build village covenants and conventions associated with the nation's traditional moral and ethical standards, promoting the self-management of the community... In 1999, Dien Ban only had one village, Chau Lau (Dien Tho commune), recognized as a cultural village. Up to now, the town has 100% of cultural villages and blocks.
The implementation of registration to build a model of cultural clans has also been carried out by many localities. Through the model, many clans have emerged with effective operations such as Vo Ngoc clan (Dien Ngoc ward), Nguyen Phi (Dien Phong commune), Le Van (Dien Hoa commune), Tran Ngoc (Dien Quang commune) ...
The clans regularly remind and encourage their descendants to comply with the law, mobilize funds to encourage learning and talent to help their descendants overcome difficulties in studying, and create livelihoods for their descendants to work and escape poverty.
Mr. Phan Ngoc Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Ban town said: "The propaganda, mobilization, and gathering of people from all walks of life to build and implement cultural models in residential communities has received unanimous support from the people.
In particular, on the occasion of the annual anniversary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front's traditional day (November 18), families, villages, residential areas and clans are commended and rewarded, creating an exciting atmosphere and encouraging people to carry out the movement of physical training and sports to build a new countryside in the town.
