Currently, the Bao Loc Pass Forest Protection Management Station (QLBVR) under the Nam Huoai Forest Protection Management Board is assigned to manage about 8,000 hectares of forest, divided into 9 sub-areas. The area is large and the terrain is complex, on average each person here manages about 2,000 hectares.

We stopped by the station early in the morning. The head of the Bao Loc Pass Forest Protection Station, Vo Truong Chinh, and the other men on duty told us to wait for the sun to rise so that the fog could clear and the ground would dry. That was the time for those who were not used to going into the forest. As for the men at the station, they went into the forest from dawn and returned home without seeing anyone at night. Sometimes staying in the forest for two or three days was normal.

Mr. Vo Truong Chinh added: "The forest area assigned to the Protection Station is almost pristine with many rare and precious woods. Despite many difficulties and a small force, we always uphold our spirit, responsibility, and determination to not let illegal loggers and other subjects commit acts of deforestation, hunting wild animals, and not let forest fires occur."

Officers and staff assigned to work at the checkpoint will live and sleep at the QLBVR checkpoint built on Bao Loc Pass. The forces here are ready with means to ensure the 4-on-site firefighting principle: on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means and on-site logistics supplies.

Following the forest rangers, one can see with one’s own eyes the vastness and majesty of the primeval forests on Bao Loc Pass. There are many precious tree trunks that are as big as 5 to 10 people can hug.

As valuable timber, the ancient trees on Bao Loc Pass are always a “delicious prey” for loggers. Therefore, forest rangers regularly patrol, inspect, and control; set up checkpoints on the only roads; and strengthen coordination with forces and people assigned to the forest to join hands in protection.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tai - an employee of Bao Loc Pass Forest Management Station confided: "We always try to patrol day and night, on sunny days as well as rainy days. The main thing is to preserve the forest, to preserve each ancient tree, which is a precious asset, a "treasure" because it has been through hundreds of years to have the shape it has today."

Crossing the forest and wading through streams is hard work, but everyone smiles because the forests are forever green.

Also accompanying the forest patrol team of the Station were people assigned to protect the forest, namely Mr. Tran Van Vu, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, and Mr. Tran Cong Than. Mr. Tran Van Vu - Head of the cooperative group assigned to protect the forest in this area said: "Every time we pass by the ancient trees, everyone is happy because the forest still has "treasures". Looking up at the ancient trees standing tall in the mountains and forests, we have more confidence to protect the forest, absolutely not allowing bad people to encroach."

Luckily, this trip to the forest did not rain, but because of the steep slope and steep cliffs, people like me who are not used to the mountains and forests often fell. Looking at me, the men all laughed and said that stumbling and slipping is a common occurrence, especially when going to the forest during the rainy season. In addition, snakes, scorpions, and forest mosquitoes are also threats to the health and lives of those who guard here day and night.

Protecting forests and ancient trees is the day and night task of the forces and people assigned to protect forests.

The life of the forest rangers is tied to makeshift huts in the middle of the forest all year round, lacking phone signal, and their staple food is instant noodles, dried fish, and wild vegetables. Despite the hardship, everyone tries to keep the forests green and ancient trees hundreds and thousands of years old standing tall in the mountains and forests.

Despite facing difficulties, dangers and sleepless nights, they have a great responsibility to protect this priceless "treasure" for future generations.
