Keep the thread of memory on the village loom

In the middle of the Lak mountains (Dak Lak province), the sound of the loom clattering from the Le village community cultural house is like a whisper of memories. The colorful brocades are woven with patience, skill and a deep love for the cultural identity of the M'nong R'lam people. Without needing to be ostentatious, the weaving profession in this village is like a thin thread - quiet but durable - connecting the present with the past, nurturing pride in the hearts of the mountain people.

Loom - where the past is kept by the hands and heartbeat of the village

At the Le Village Community Cultural House, several M'nong women still work steadily at their looms. They weave not only to preserve their craft, but also to reconnect the hidden thread of memory and identity. The threads stretch from childhood memories to today, cherished through meticulous hands and eyes full of memories. When realizing that many women have not yet mastered the original pattern techniques - motifs that contain stories about the land, about people, about their ethnic worldview - the village has come together. They invited artisans, opened classes to teach, and together reconnected the knowledge that seemed to be fading.

That was when Ms. H'Den Bkrông (jun village) returned, bringing with her the professional training she had received from the city. She did not hesitate to hold hands and teach the women each ancient weaving stroke and each traditional silk thread. Every morning, the sound of the loom resounded regularly under the roof of the Cultural House. Initially, there were only a few people, but now the weaving class has 13 women participating regularly. They not only learn to do - but also learn to preserve. From that class, the Le village Brocade Weaving Club was born, with Ms. H'Sen Hmok Du as the head. For her, each woven piece of fabric is a part of the passion, a piece of the soul of the village.

The weaving profession of the M'nong R'lam people is not only a labor, but also a form of preserving culture through hands and memory. Traditional brocade patterns simulate geometry, labor tools, nature... all of which contain the life philosophy, world view and aspirations of the M'nong people. To weave a brocade that carries the original spirit, requires meticulousness and love for each thread. It is this dedication that has rekindled the fire of the profession that seemed to have died down.

Not stopping at the classroom, the Lak district government has opened a new direction: building OCOP products for brocade. The community cultural house was renovated with a budget of more than 90 million VND, meeting the needs of daily life and production. The government also coordinated with organizations, departments and offices to gradually remove difficulties, creating conditions for brocade of Le village to gain a foothold in the market.

Along with that is the orientation of developing craft villages associated with community tourism. Destinations such as Buon Le, Buon Jun will not only be places to "see" but also places to "experience" - where visitors can sit by the weaving loom, listen to stories about thread, about indigo, about the diligent hands preserving culture over the years. That is a great expectation, but also very ordinary: For the villages to live by their profession, so that culture is not a past memory, but a present breathing with a new rhythm of life.

The threads of memory are gradually taking shape on the village loom. The M'nong R'lam women quietly continue to weave the dream of preserving the identity of their own people - with threads, colors, hands and love for the village.

And then, from the weaving looms in small villages, that thread of memory can spread further - to other villages, to young souls who are searching for their roots. Weaving not only revives life, but also awakens faith in the soft power of culture. Hopefully, there will be more hands contributing thread, weaving the net of memory - so that the M'nong brocade can continue to tell its story on the fabric of the future.
