In the midst of the stormy season, Party love warms people's hearts

Since the end of October, frequent heavy rains combined with high tides have caused deep flooding in houses, rice fields, and orchards of many households in Long Thanh, Giong Rieng, and Hoa Hung communes. While people's lives have been disrupted, the image of cadres and party members rolling up their pants and wading through the water to visit, encourage, and help people overcome the consequences has become a familiar and heartwarming sight.

In Lang Quam hamlet, Giong Rieng commune, Le Van Hung's small thatched house was flooded about 0.5m deep. As a hired laborer with no stable job and two school-age children, on the days when the water rose, Hung was almost exhausted because he had to move his belongings and manage living expenses. "The water came into the house so quickly, my children and I couldn't clean up in time, we had to put a high bed to sleep. With small children and limited finances, I was really stuck," Hung shared.

Seeing the difficult situation of Mr. Hung's family, the People's Committee of Giong Rieng commune visited, encouraged, gave necessities and supported the construction of a solidarity house with a budget of 55 million VND. "Having a new, solid house, I can work with peace of mind and take care of my two children's education. I will always remember this kindness," Mr. Hung said emotionally.

In Long Thanh commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Y, residing in Luong Truc hamlet, is one of the households that suffered heavy damage due to rising water. Mr. Y said: "The pineapple garden is nearly 20 hectares, the river water is almost overflowing, the whole family is worried that the garden will be flooded. Luckily, the cadres and party members of the hamlet and commune promptly came down to help dig drainage ditches, build banks and lend me a water pump to save the pineapple, otherwise the damage would be much worse."

In addition to providing material support, the commune’s cadres and party members also guided people on post-flood recovery measures, cleaning and unclogging sewers to prevent disease. Many single-parent households and lonely elderly people received support from union members, youths and militia to relocate their assets and temporarily stabilize their lives.

According to Mr. Pham Khuong Duy - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Giong Rieng Commune, from the end of October until now, the Commune Front and hamlets have mobilized 733 gifts, with a total value of nearly 200 million VND to support households affected by flooding. "As soon as we grasped the situation of deep flooding, the Commune Front coordinated with the hamlet Front working committee to urgently review and make a list of households in difficult circumstances to provide timely support. We determined to help people not only in times of emergency but also to accompany them for a long time, support them to stabilize their lives and restore production after the flood recedes. This is also an opportunity for each cadre and party member to demonstrate their sense of responsibility, to be close to the people, to not leave anyone behind", Mr. Duy emphasized.

In Long Thanh commune, the recent storms and floods flooded 355 houses and 33 hectares of crops and orchards; more than 10km of rural roads were submerged in water from 0.2 to 0.5m. Mr. Truong Thanh Doan - Head of the Economic Department of Long Thanh commune said: "The Department surveyed and developed plans to protect key dykes, proactively provided materials and means to respond to incidents; at the same time, coordinated with the Fatherland Front, businesses, cadres and party members to contribute funds and necessities to support the people. Although the gifts were not large, they were given at the right time of difficulty and warmed the hearts of the people."

On the concrete roads submerged in muddy water, cadres and party members of Long Thanh, Giong Rieng and Hoa Hung communes still diligently visit each house to visit, help people overcome the consequences, and give necessities. For the people, it is not only material support but also belief, a vivid proof of the spirit of "The Party is always with the people, for the people and takes care of the people". The water will recede, the gardens will be green again, but the affection and responsibility of cadres and party members towards the people will remain forever, like a bright spot in the picture of affection of the countryside that is changing day by day.
