The Chinese golf scene has just had its second representative win the prestigious cup, when 20-year-old Ruoning Yin won the Women's PGA Championship at -8.
In the history of the women's five majors, Shanshan Feng is the first Chinese champion. Feng achieved that feat at the Women's PGA Championship, in 2012.
This morning, June 26, Hanoi time, Yin followed Feng's lead, pressing the winning mark of -8 with a birdie putt from nearly three meters away, right on the final hole of the Batusrol par71 course in New Jersey.
Yin bogeys the final hole to win the Women's PGA Championship.
This was Yin's fourth birdie of the round. She had no bogeys throughout the round, averaging 269 yards, hitting 12 of 14 fairways, reaching the green in par for all 18 holes and making 33 putts. After the shot, Yin pushed Filipino golfer Yuka Saso to second place, at -7.
"Before the final round, I set a goal with my fitness coach that I wouldn't lose three putts on any green. Just like that, it didn't matter if I won or lost. Then when I saw Yuka take the lead with a birdie on 18, I thought I had to birdie that hole to win the championship. Finally, I did it," Yin told Golf Channel .
The tournament results recorded Yin's compatriot - Xiyu Lin in T3 (-6). Lin is 27 years old, has known Yin for four years and considers them sisters. Yin learned from Lin's experience to find a way to enter the LPGA Tour. Yin achieved that goal in early 2022. She is also renting Lin's old house in Orlando for convenience in competing.

Winning the Women's PGA Championship, Yin received $1.5 million for the first major of her career. This is also only the second time she has won on the LPGA Tour, after the Los Angeles Open with $262,500 in early April this year.
Yin started playing golf at the age of 10 and has been playing professionally since 2020. In her debut year, she entered the Chinese women's professional golf arena and won three tournaments in a row, thereby owning two Guinness records both related to the Chinese LPGA Tour, including "Longest winning streak" and "Longest winning streak by a rookie".
