Tottenham started the game with a bang, determined to win to keep their hopes of qualifying for next season's Europa League alive. In fact, the home side had their best half of the season. The back four were superb and the supporting attacking trio of Son Heung-min, Danjuma and Kulusevski behind Harry Kane completely overwhelmed Brentford.
Tottenham had nine shots (five on target) in the first half and should have had more than one goal after Kane opened the scoring in the 8th minute. Emerson, Son Heung-min, Danjuma and Kulusevski all had chances but missed.

Brentford, who are also in contention for a Europa League spot, struggled in the first half and their attack was hit hard by the eight-month ban on star striker Ivan Toney for breaching betting rules. However, the visitors made a surprising comeback in the second half.
In contrast to the first half, Spurs' defence made a series of mistakes in the second half and they were punished by two goals. Ryan Mbeumo stunned Tottenham fans with a brace in the 50th and 62nd minutes after slow situations from left-back Ben Davies, helping Brentford lead 2-1.
Two quick goals forced interim manager Ryan Mason to bolster his attack by bringing on Lucas Moura, Pedro Porro and Richarlison. However, the home side were effectively stuck as their opponents played a defensive game. Spurs' hopes of a point were dashed in the 88th minute when Yoane Wissa punished a mistake by midfielder Oliver Skipp to seal a 3-1 win for Brentford.
Ryan Mbeumo punishes Tottenham defence with double
This is Tottenham's third consecutive defeat, causing them to drop to 7th place (the Europa Conference League qualifying position) and face the risk of being overtaken by Aston Villa (a team with 57 points but playing 1 less match).
Spurs will no longer have the right to decide the ticket to the European Cup when they visit Leeds in the final round. If the worst happens, Tottenham will experience a crisis season when it is the first time since the 2009-2010 season that they do not participate in the European Cup. Meanwhile, the victory at Tottenham helps Brentford (56 points) not give up hope of competing for a ticket to the European Cup next season even though they have to welcome Man City in the final round.
