Young music lovers in general and drum enthusiasts in Da Nang in particular may be familiar with two names: JayQ Drumlesson - a drum class at 48A Nguyen Dang, Thanh Khe District and Melody Band Da Nang - a 5-member group specializing in playing music for large and small tea rooms in the city. At JayQ Drumlesson, Quy is the founder, the main instructor and other members who inspire students every day. At Melody Band, he is a professional drummer, working professionally for nearly 10 years.
Teaching, traveling and performing keep Quy busy all week. Working at the same time with two jobs that always require the highest physical and mental performance is certainly a challenge for able-bodied people, but for Quy it is even more difficult. However, seeing how he tries to take root in life like a normal person, everyone will surely feel trust and admiration.
Sharing the reason for opening a drum class, Quy said: “JayQ Drumlesson was born as a commitment I made to myself. If music can save me, it can save others. I opened the class not only to teach drums, but to instill the belief that anyone can live with passion, no matter what wounds they carry.”
Indeed, anyone who comes here can feel the dedication of Quy and his companions. Currently, JayQ Drumlesson has about 20 - 25 students studying regularly. From children, many young people, the elderly, to ordinary workers, even other locals come. Besides the main class, JayQ Drumlesson also organizes music exchanges, mini shows for students to confidently perform, and drum experience workshops for the community. JayQ Drumlesson also has a scholarship program and tuition exemption for special circumstances such as disabled children, people who are passionate but do not have enough financial conditions...
Coming to the drum class at JayQ Drumlesson when he was 40 years old, Mr. Nguyen Phi Hoang (born in 1985, from Gia Lai) said that learning a new instrument like drums helped him relive his vibrant youth, giving him more joy and motivation in life. As for Mr. Bui Viet Hieu (born in 1995), currently working as a delivery man for Shopee Food in Da Nang , Mr. Quy's class is a useful time to relax and recharge after tiring working hours. "I feel like I forget the hardships of work. When I meet and receive guidance from Mr. Quy, I appreciate life even more because it has given me a healthy body."
Turning to music as a therapy to stabilize his mind, as time passed, Ha Duc Anh Quy and the drums became one. Starting out with a lot of insecurity when he had to fight with his inferiority complex and face adverse health conditions, Quy has now confidently shined on every stage, big and small. He has received enthusiastic support from the band members and encouragement and sympathy from the audience.
Choosing drums to connect with the outside world , Quy believes that drums are like a heartbeat, because they are strong, lively and honest. When playing drums, Quy clearly feels that he is alive. Coming to music, Quy no longer sees himself as a lost person, but is living every moment to the fullest. When the time comes, Quy and his teammates will organize a workshop called "Drums & Revival". Here, Quy will once again tell his story. The program will invite young people with disabilities to learn and experience for free. In addition, Quy is also preparing a project to organize a band competition program for students in Da Nang.
Believing that standing before Quy, a person who was once called by fate because of a serious illness, but he still persevered to live on, everyone would feel more strength, rising up to conquer all adversities.
