In the 2024-2025 school year, the entire city of Hanoi will have about 127,000 9th grade students.
According to the Department of Education and Training, Hanoi will try to send at least 64% of students to public schools. In 2024, this rate will be only about 61%.
The 10th grade public exam in Hanoi is scheduled to take place on June 6-9. On June 6, candidates will complete exam procedures, on June 7-8, candidates will take the general exam, and on June 9, candidates will take the specialized exam.

Candidates must take three subjects: math, literature and foreign language. Besides English, candidates can choose any foreign language among French, Japanese, German, Korean to take the entrance exam to all high schools in the city and still study English as the main foreign language.
This year, the total admission score will be reduced from 50 to 30 due to the doubling of math and literature scores. In addition, the exam scores and the benchmark scores will be announced at the same time.
This year, the quota for specialized classes has increased significantly due to the establishment of two new specialized schools, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted and Son Tay High School for the Gifted. On the contrary, the quota for the general education system will be cut from these two schools.
