Hanoi starts construction of Thuong Cat Bridge, the 6th bridge across the Red River

The Hanoi People's Committee has just started construction on the Thuong Cat Bridge project, the 6th bridge across the Red River invested in and built by Hanoi.

On the morning of October 8, the Hanoi People's Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony for component project 2, investing in the construction of Thuong Cat bridge and access roads at both ends of the bridge.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Ngo Ngoc Van - Director of the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board - said that the project was implemented to complete the traffic infrastructure according to the plan, serving daily travel needs, reducing traffic congestion and promoting the formation of new urban areas in the area.

The project has a starting point at km3+504 (Ky Vu road, Thuong Cat ward) and an end point at km8+731 (National Highway 23B, Thien Loc commune).

The main bridge is designed as a cable-stayed bridge, with a total length of bridge and approach roads of more than 5.2km, of which the bridge is 3.9km long, the approach road is 1.3km, and the bridge deck is wide enough for 8 lanes (6 motor lanes, 2 rudimentary lanes).

The total investment of the project is more than 7,300 billion VND from Hanoi's budget, expected to be completed in 2027.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said that this is a key project, part of the Hanoi Party Committee's program on urban development and urban economy in the 2021-2025 period.

According to Mr. Tuan, the above project is of great significance in completing the framework traffic infrastructure, connecting the area north of the Red River with the center of Hanoi, contributing to the completion of the 3.5 ring road. From there, it plays a key role in strengthening the connection of the Northwest area with the central urban area of ​​the city, sharing traffic with the 3 ring road.

Mr. Tuan highly appreciated the efforts of the investor, local authorities and consensus of the people in the process of preparing for the project investment.

At the same time, construction units are required to concentrate human resources, equipment, and organize construction urgently and safely, ensuring quality, technique, aesthetics, and project progress.
