Hanoi launches Action Month against drugs

In his opening speech, Major General Nguyen Hong Ky, Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police, said that in order to achieve effectiveness in the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control in 2025 and the National Day for Drug Prevention and Control on June 26, the forces under the City Police need to promote their core role, focus on successfully implementing the peak period of attacking and suppressing drug-related crimes; resolutely carry out the peak period of fighting and eliminating complicated drug-related spots and hotspots.

The city police focus on fighting and destroying organizations and drug trafficking and transportation networks with the spirit of "dismantling networks, capturing masterminds, ringleaders and drug retailers", verifying, tracing and confiscating all assets from drug crimes, thoroughly and comprehensively handling related crimes for strict punishment, deterrence and general prevention.

The city police continue to conduct a general review, detect and count drug addicts, illegal drug users, and people under post-rehabilitation management to have strict management measures, especially those showing signs of psychosis and “stonedness”. From there, focus on sending all drug addicts who meet the legal requirements to rehabilitation.

"In particular, workers at drug rehabilitation facilities must promote the highest sense of responsibility, proactively innovate and be creative in management methods,educate students, and ensure a safe, disciplined, friendly, humane and effective treatment environment. Each student needs to clearly define their goals, train their will, change their perceptions and behaviors, and must identify drug rehabilitation as a journey to return to themselves, to become useful people, for themselves, for their families and a drug-free community," said Major General Nguyen Hong Ky.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Major General Nguyen Duc Thinh, Deputy Director of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department ( Ministry of Public Security ) highly appreciated the Hanoi City Police as a unit that has implemented very drastically, with many creative ways to receive and organize the implementation of tasks related to state management of drug addiction treatment and post-treatment management of nearly 5,000 drug addicts at 4 facilities.

Major General Nguyen Duc Thinh said that in the coming time, the situation of drug-related crimes and social evils will continue to develop in a complicated and serious manner. To contribute to reducing drug-related crimes and social evils, the Drug Crime Investigation Police force needs to synchronize professional measures to promptly detect and destroy drug trafficking and transportation networks; and complex drug hotspots and locations.

At the same time, the police force proactively coordinates with the city's sectors and organizations to advise Party committees and authorities at all levels to effectively implement the work of preventing and combating crime and drug abuse.
