At the conference to deploy key tasks for the 2023-2024 school year for secondaryeducation organized by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training on August 18, a representative of the Son Tay Town Department of Education and Training said that recently, there has been information that Son Tay High School will become a specialized school of the city and will not have a mass enrollment quota.

This information makes many students and parents worried because there are currently few public high schools in the area. If Son Tay High School becomes a specialized school and does not enroll students in the general system, students will have difficulty finding places to study.

Regarding this content, a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said: Circular No. 05 of the Ministry of Education and Training on the operating regulations of specialized high schools requires "not to organize non-specialized classes in specialized schools".

Currently, Hanoi has two public high schools with specialized classes: Chu Van An High School and Son Tay High School. Last school year, these two schools still enrolled 10th graders in the specialized and general programs.

In accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi plans to develop and establish a project to turn Chu Van An High School and Son Tay High School into specialized schools. However, this will require time to prepare.

When the two schools above are converted into specialized schools, the general enrollment quota of the two schools as before will no longer exist. To ensure places for students, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will advise the city to establish new public high schools.

Circular No. 05 of the Ministry of Education and Training on the regulations of specialized high schools requires "no non-specialized classes in specialized schools", effective from April 15, 2023. The Circular stipulates: Specialized high schools will not organize non-specialized classes to develop talents in certain subjects on the basis of ensuring comprehensive general education, creating a source of talent training, meeting the development requirements of the country.
