On July 18, information from Ha Tinh General Hospital said that the hospital's doctors had successfully performed surgery to remove a nest of maggots from the nasal cavity of a 60-year-old female patient.
Previously, patient TTT (60 years old, residing in Ky Anh commune, Ha Tinh province) was taken to the hospital by his family with symptoms of bleeding and discharge from the left nostril.
Doctors performed an endoscopy on the left nose and discovered a suspected tumor with a lot of bloody fluid.
After draining all the blood, a suspicious foreign object resembling a stone and many maggots was discovered in the nasal cavity.
The patient was taken to the operating room for laparoscopic surgery and 7 maggots were removed, each measuring 1cm long and 2mm in diameter; at the same time, the entire stone was removed.

After successfully treating the maggot nest and the stone mass in the nasal cavity, the patient's health is now stable and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.
According to patient T.'s family, 6 months ago, the patient had a stuffy nose, but did not go to the doctor and just bought salt water to rinse his nose. However, the stuffy nose did not improve but got worse, so they took the patient to Ha Tinh General Hospital for examination.
Doctor Le Thi Ha, head of the ear, nose and throat department of Ha Tinh General Hospital, said this is a rare case due to lack of attention to hygiene, along with a foreign body tumor in the nasal cavity, which is a favorable condition for larvae to develop into maggots.
