The information was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son when receiving US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper on October 23.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that both sides maintain the positive development momentum of bilateral relations, including contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones.

He affirmed that Vietnam wishes to cooperate more closely with the US in areas of mutual interest within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in science and technology, training of high-quality human resources, energy, semiconductors, etc., while continuing to maintain good cooperation in the fields of overcoming war consequences and building trust.

Regarding the tariff issue, Mr. Son appreciated the two negotiating delegations' continued cooperation and close exchanges. He suggested that the US continue to consider the specific factors of Vietnam's economy in the process of negotiating a reciprocal tax agreement between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will continue to increase purchases of American goods, especially high-tech products such as aircraft and semiconductor products. At the same time, Vietnam will continue to expand the market for American goods and create conditions for American enterprises to operate effectively in Vietnam.

For his part, Ambassador Knapper emphasized that 2025 is of great significance in bilateral relations, as the two sides celebrate the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

The US Embassy in Hanoi has and will continue to coordinate with Vietnamese agencies and localities to organize practical commemorative activities, aiming for a bright future between the two countries and peoples.

He affirmed that he attaches special importance to promoting delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, including high-level ones, thereby maintaining the momentum of substantive and good development of relations between the two countries.

Regarding tariffs and trade, Mr. Knapper expressed his gratitude to Vietnam for its positive approach, understanding of US concerns, and proactively promoting negotiations from a very early stage.

He affirmed that the US side hopes that the two sides will soon complete negotiations to implement a reciprocal tax agreement, thereby bringing benefits to both countries.

The US Embassy will closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries and sectors in the coming time to discuss measures to expand cooperation in all fields, with the hope of a strong, independent, self-reliant, prosperous Vietnam and a strong development of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, contributing more to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
