According to information from the ASEAN International Film Festival 2023, the Film Festival has officially opened with nominations for 9 categories. Two films "Memento Mori: Land" by director Marcus Manh Cuong Vu and "Brilliant Dark Night" by director Aaron Toronto are nominated in 4 categories.

The ASEAN International Films Festival & Awards (AIFFA 2023) opened on the evening of August 2 on Kuching Island (Sarawak, Malaysia).
Vietnamese cinema has two representatives in the nomination list for the categories of the Film Festival. Specifically, the film "Memento Mori: Land" by director Marcus Manh Cuong Vu was nominated for Best Picture for Tran Ngoc Khuyen and Best Actress for Nguyen Hai Yen.
The film "Brilliant Night" by director Aaron Toronto was nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Kim B Ngo.
This year's film festival has seven films competing for the Best Film award, including “Before, Now & Then” (Indonesia), “Barbarian Invasion”, “Prebet Sapu”, “Duan Nago Bogho” (both from Malaysia), “Ginhawa”, “Kargo” (Philippines) and “Perjalanan Pertama” (from Malaysia in collaboration with Indonesia).

Director and actress Hong Anh is the representative of Vietnamese cinema on the jury of the Film Festival. Another representative of Vietnamese cinema is actress Lam Vissay, who appeared in the TV series “Thuong nho o ai” by director Luu Trong Ninh, who is also present at the Film Festival, participating in the discussion sessions as a speaker.
This year’s ASEAN International Film Festival attracted 120 entries. The organizing committee selected 34 films for the official competition categories, including two representatives of Vietnamese cinema.

The festival will feature South Korean film and music star Rain as its international guest. Rain will attend the gala and awards ceremony on August 4.
