The 2025 Hai Phong Puppetry Festival is a special art event, part of a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13, 1955 - May 13, 2025), and is also an opportunity to honor, preserve and promote the values of traditional national art.

Taking place from May 3-9, this year's expanded Hai Phong Puppetry Festival brings together the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, Thang Long Puppetry Theatre ( Hanoi ), Hai Phong Traditional Stage Theatre and 5 traditional puppetry troupes from localities across the country, along with thousands of artists, actors, artisans, audiences who love traditional art and people of the Port City.
Activities are held at two main locations: the City Theater Square and the Song Cam Theater (274 Le Loi), with many rich and attractive programs.
The water puppet and stage puppet shows are elaborately staged, combining lighting effects, traditional music and witty, expressive dialogue, giving the audience unique artistic experiences that are both strange and familiar.

In addition, performances of ancient cheo excerpts, amateur music and the launch of the special art program "Hai Phong invites friends from all over the world" also created a colorful picture of traditional Vietnamese theater.
Not only stopping at restoring ancient plays, the expanded Hai Phong Puppetry Festival also boldly introduces adapted puppet shows, combining modern elements to approach the tastes of young audiences more closely, creating a bridge between the past and the present.

The highlight of the festival is the colorful street parade, with the participation of more than 3,000 artists and actors in traditional costumes, along with funny and lively puppets. Especially, there is the participation of international groups including students, experts living and working in Hai Phong; the heritage group of Vietnamese ao dai and traditional costumes with the participation of women from Kim Thanh district (Hai Duong)... with Vietnamese ao dai and traditional costumes.

The 3rd Hai Phong Puppetry Festival is not only a playground for art troupes but also an opportunity for tourists and city residents to immerse themselves in, experience and enjoy traditional art in the heart of a modern city.
Exchange activities, puppetry experiences, getting to know the artisans, and learning how to control puppets attract a large number of young people to participate, igniting pride in folk cultural heritage.
