On the afternoon of July 20, in the cool weather, Mrs. Le Thi Bich Tran, wife of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Mrs. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, wife of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim enjoyed a water puppet show at the Vietnam Contemporary Arts Theater (Le Thai To Street, Hoan Kiem). The theater representative introduced to the two ladies the general features of the exhibition space and the history of the folk art form of water puppetry. The artists also introduced the art of water puppetry and how to make puppets. After that, the two ladies enjoyed some performances by the artists. During the performance, the magical sounds were played by artisans with traditional instruments such as the erhu, flute, zither, monochord and cheo songs, the Malaysian Prime Minister's wife understood more about the art form imbued with the cultural identity of the North. On the water pavilion stage, the performances included Dragon Dance; Eight-tone Orchestra - Vinh Quy Bai To; Le Loi Returns the Sword; Agriculture ; Fighting Foxes and Catching Ducks; Hau Dong - Spiritual dance performed by talented artists. The lacquered wooden puppets moving flexibly on water impressed the two ladies. The Malaysian Prime Minister's wife expressed her impression of Vietnamese water puppetry and the performances. In the theater's guestbook, she expressed her hope that this art form will continue to be maintained and developed. At the end of the performance, when the Vietnamese artists half submerged in water stepped out of the curtain, the two ladies gave rounds of applause and compliments to the Vietnamese water puppetry performance. Water puppetry is one of the typical theatrical forms of Vietnamese culture, demonstrating the wisdom, intelligence and creativity of the Vietnamese people. This is an activity that bears the cultural and experiential mark in the official visit to Vietnam schedule of the Malaysian Prime Minister's wife.
