On the same day, South Korea sent the 4,900-ton Nojeokbong landing ship carrying about 370 soldiers to Thailand to participate in the Cobra Gold exercise.

This year's exercise is scheduled to take place in 11 areas in Thailand from February 25 to March 7.

In the exercise led by the Thai and US armed forces, the South Korean military plans to deploy six amphibious assault vehicles, two K55 self-propelled guns and one K77 fire control vehicle.

The soldiers will participate in a variety of field events, including amphibious landing exercises with the Thai, US and Singaporean militaries, and joint naval operations.

South Korean amphibious assault vehicles will move onto Singapore’s amphibious transport dock ship. The exercise will also include special operations drills, humanitarian assistance operations and cyber defense training.

Launched in 1982, the annual Cobra Gold exercise focuses on training multinational forces to maintain regional stability in a simulated armed conflict.

South Korea officially joined the exercise in 2010 after participating as an observer from 2002-2009.
