Many craft villages in Thuong Tin district are changing in the right direction.

The villages are growing

Vice Chairman of Thuong Tin District People's Committee Bui Cong Than said that in 2024, people in Van Tao commune had a "bumper harvest" of peach blossoms despite having previously faced many difficulties due to rain and storms. Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung, Van Tao commune shared that his family has nearly 300 ornamental peach trees for rent and peach branches for sale; thanks to the high price of peach blossoms, it brings high income to the family.

Promoting the conversion of crop structure, Van Tao has become a bright spot of Thuong Tin district in economic development and new rural construction. Chairman of Van Tao Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Hoan said that Van Tao has developed peach blossom growing since 1990 and is increasingly expanding its area. Up to now, the commune has more than 1,200 households with 93 hectares of peach blossom growing, earning about 1.5 billion VND/ha/year. Many families also rent nearly 30 hectares of agricultural land in the communes of Tu Nhien and Chuong Duong to grow peach blossoms. Not only having experience, peach growers in Van Tao commune also master and apply science and technology: sawing branches, pruning leaves, grafting buds, wrapping with plastic, electric heating... to make peach blossoms bloom in time for Lunar New Year, helping local people have high income. Therefore, peach trees are the main tree with higher economic efficiency than other trees in Van Tao.

“Up to now, Van Tao has had 2 villages: Noi Thon and Dong Thai recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee as traditional flower and ornamental plant craft villages. The flower growing profession provides jobs for more than 1,000 local workers, with an average income of 10-15 million VND/person/month. Peach blossom trees contribute to making the lives of Van Tao people increasingly prosperous and the countryside prosperous” - Chairman of Van Tao Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Hoan said.

Not only Van Tao, the communes of Thuong Tin district all have effective directions. Communes with occupations such as Nhi Khe, Duyen Thai, Hong Van... focus on developing occupations and occupational services. Communes with relic sites and cultural works focus on developing tourism . Thanks to their sensitivity, the localities develop quite evenly. For example, Duyen Thai commune is famous for two craft villages: Ha Thai lacquerware and Phuc Am votive paper making.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, Secretary of the Duyen Thai Commune Party Committee, said that in addition to Phuc Am gold votive paper craft village, Duyen Thai is also famous for its lacquer craft for more than 200 years. To promote the economic development of the craft village, the commune coordinated with the Hanoi Department of Tourism to introduce the "Duyen Thai Craft Village Art" tour to promote local economic development. This is also a premise for Duyen Thai to soon complete the construction of a model new rural area.

According to Vice Chairman of Thuong Tin District People's Committee Bui Cong Than, one of Thuong Tin's outstanding achievements is the construction of new rural areas. The district was recognized as meeting new rural standards in 2020; to date, the entire district has 17/28 communes recognized as meeting advanced new rural standards, of which 3 communes are recognized as meeting model new rural standards. The district has completed the criteria for meeting advanced new rural standards in 2024, waiting for the Hanoi People's Committee to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision earlier than planned.

For many years, the peach blossom growing profession has helped people in Van Tao commune have high income and stable life.

Planning and building many industrial clusters

Thanks to the new direction, in recent years, Thuong Tin's economy has developed strongly. If in 2015, the district's total budget revenue only reached 253.3 billion VND, by 2024 this figure increased to 1,380 billion VND, reaching 112% of the estimate. Promoting cultural resources and craft villages, Thuong Tin chose to develop green industry, cultural industry, using infrastructure as a "leverage".

According to Chairman of Thuong Tin District People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Minh, in the past 10 years (2014 - 2024), the district has implemented 329 projects to develop transport infrastructure, social infrastructure, projects to restore and preserve cultural and historical works with an average cumulative disbursement rate of over 85%. Notably, in 2024, the district will promote key projects, including Phung Hiep Industrial Park.

Thanks to early planning and investment in construction, Thuong Tin district now has 11 industrial clusters in operation, creating jobs and increasing income for local people. The district is the earliest locality to complete compensation, support, site clearance, and resettlement to serve the investment project to build Ring Road 4 - Hanoi Capital Region...

Based on the results achieved, Thuong Tin district strives to complete the targets and tasks set out in the Resolution of the 24th Congress of the District Party Committee this year. Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Tin district Nguyen Xuan Minh said that in the coming time, Thuong Tin will continue to invest in building industrial clusters: Thang Loi, Tien Phong phase 2, Ninh So phase 2; carry out investment preparation for projects assigned in 2025, focusing on building national standard schools, projects in communes built to meet advanced NTM standards, model NTM standards...

Mobilize resources to invest in synchronous and modern infrastructure; urban embellishment associated with urban economy, green economy, model new rural areas... contributing to the capital Hanoi to develop faster and more effectively" - Chairman of Thuong Tin District People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Minh affirmed.
