Things to avoid doing in winter

Avoid going out too early

In winter, the days are short and the nights are long, the warmth of the sky and earth gradually shrinks, and the cold increases. Morning is when the cold air is strongest, going out early can easily cause cold to invade, damaging the yang energy. Modern science also shows that low temperatures stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, increasing the risk of cardiovascular accidents. Therefore, it is best to go out when the sun has risen, in the warm sunlight.

Avoid eating too salty - eat something bitter

According to Oriental medicine, winter is the time when kidney energy is strong, the corresponding taste is “salty”. If you eat too much salt, the kidney energy will suppress the heart, causing the body to lose balance. Therefore, there is a saying “in winter, you should eat less salt and more bitter”. Dishes such as bitter melon, green cabbage, and bitter vegetables help nourish the heart, regulate kidney energy, and keep the body functioning harmoniously.

Avoid bathing too hot or too long

Oriental medicine believes that “the heart governs the blood vessels, blood and sweat have the same source”. Excessive sweating depletes blood and energy, easily causing dizziness, fatigue, and chest tightness. Therefore, the bath water temperature should be 37-40 degrees Celsius and the bath time should not exceed 15 minutes.

Lazy to exercise

Cold weather makes you just want to curl up in a warm blanket and be lazy to exercise . But according to experts, you should maintain the habit of exercising even though the weather is cold. Otherwise, you will be at risk of gaining weight, heart disease and seasonal diseases. Moreover, if you exercise diligently in winter, it can help you lose weight faster.

Things to do to help protect your health in winter

Should keep yang energy - go to bed early, wake up late

The traditional medicine book Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon states: "Yang Qi is like the sky and the sun, if lost, life expectancy is shortened." Yang Qi is the source of human life energy. To preserve Yang Qi, one must go to bed early, wake up late, and get enough sleep. Sleeping early helps avoid the cold air at night, and waking up late helps the body absorb the warmth of the day, keeping the mind alert and peaceful.

Pay attention to eating

In winter, you should eat hot food, nutritious food according to the season, do not eat raw or cold food. Nutritious food can help you increase your immunity and keep your body warm.

Remember to eat lots of green vegetables and beans. In winter, don't go hungry early in the morning, don't eat too much at night, after eating you can lie down and rest to aid digestion.

Paying attention to cooking and knowing how to use some spices to help warm the body is also an effective method to protect health during the season. Below are some spices that help keep the body warm and can be used more in cooking during the cold season: turmeric, pepper, ginger,...

Keep your body warm in winter

Winter includes the 10th, 11th, and 12th lunar months, including 6 solar terms: Lap Dong, Tieu Tuyet, Dai Tuyet, Dong Chi, Tieu Han, Dai Han. The drop in temperature increases the risk of infection. Colds, flu, and fever are some of the common health conditions that people need to pay attention to.

Keep warm and protect 3 important areas:

- Head: is where yang energy concentrates, if it is cold you can easily get headaches and catch a cold. When going out, you should wear a hat.

- Back and waist: are the “covers of the kidneys”. Cold easily weakens kidney yang, causing back pain and fatigue. Wear long enough clothes to cover your back.

- Feet: are the farthest part from the heart and are prone to cold. Soak your feet in warm water (about 40 degrees Celsius) for 20 minutes every night to help blood circulation and sleep better.

Winter exercise regimen

In winter, the weather is often cold, making many people tend to be less active. This leads to poor blood circulation, making it easy to get aches and pains, cold hands and feet, and cramps in cold weather. Therefore, even in cold weather, it is still necessary to exercise and move regularly to warm the body and help blood circulation better.

Depending on the conditions, you can exercise indoors or outdoors. Note that if you want to exercise outdoors, you should exercise when the sun is up, do not exercise too early because you will easily get sick from the cold dew. Regular exercise with the right intensity helps increase metabolism, improve health, and reduce the risk of illness.
