The number of people poisoned after eating bread in Ho Chi Minh City has risen to 235.

On November 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health informed about suspected cases of poisoning after eating bread at Ms. B's Toad Bread shop, location 1 Nguyen Thai Son (Hanh Thong ward) and location 2 Le Quang Dinh (Binh Loi Trung ward).

Accordingly, as of 8am on November 10, 235 suspected cases of poisoning had been examined and treated at 13 hospitals in the area. Of these, 96 cases were being treated as inpatients, most of whom are currently stable.

Specifically, Military Hospital 175 has received 131 cases. Of which, 23 cases are being treated as inpatients, the rest have recovered or been discharged for outpatient treatment; Tam Anh General Hospital has received 26 cases (including 1 case of eating bread at facility 2). Currently, 13 cases are continuing to be treated as inpatients in the Gastroenterology Department. Of which, 1 case was initially in the ICU, but is now stable and has been transferred to the Gastroenterology Department.

Gia Dinh People's Hospital has admitted 52 cases (8 cases at facility 2), currently treating 34 inpatients, with 1 case admitted on November 5, blood culture positive for Salmonella, antibiotic sensitivity test is being treated. 1 severe case admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, on a ventilator due to respiratory failure due to pneumonia, the main cause is the underlying disease.

Binh Dan Hospital received 1 case, which is now stable and has been discharged; My Duc Tan Binh Hospital received 1 case, a 28-year-old pregnant woman, 34 weeks and 2 days pregnant, currently receiving inpatient treatment. Currently, the pregnant woman is stable, no fever, stable vital signs, no abdominal pain, no more loose stools, normal fetal movements, normal fetal heart rate.

Becamex International Hospital received 09 cases, all of which are being treated as inpatients; Trung My Tay General Hospital received 7 cases (1 case at facility 2), currently being treated as inpatients; Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital received 1 case, currently being treated as inpatients; Khanh Hoi General Hospital received 01 case, currently being treated as inpatients; Children's Hospital 2 received 2 cases, currently being treated as inpatients.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Facility 1 received 2 cases, of which 1 case was transferred to Thong Nhat Hospital for treatment, 1 case was transferred to Trung My Tay Hospital (the patient was on the list of Trung My Tay Hospital).

Currently, both locations of Ms. B's Toad Bread have stopped operating.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Branch 3, received 2 cases, currently receiving inpatient treatment; People's Hospital 115 received 1 case (eating bread at Branch 2 Le Quang Dinh) currently asking to go home for outpatient treatment.

Most of the poisoning cases were caused by eating bread at the branch at 1 Nguyen Thai Son. Currently, the two bread selling establishments have temporarily stopped operating, all food and ingredients have been sealed and samples have been taken for testing. The inspection team is expanding the verification of related cases at many hospitals to determine the cause and handle them according to regulations.

Clinical and laboratory data showed that the majority of patients had intestinal infections, most likely caused by Salmonella - a common cause of food poisoning.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has reported to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Ministry of Health about the mass poisoning incident, and at the same time directed hospitals to admit, classify, and treat according to food poisoning protocols.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety is also coordinating with functional forces to establish an investigation team.
