More than 800 authors and groups of authors from 41 countries and territories around the world will share new research results on tunnel and underground space construction techniques; soft ground improvement; landslides and erosion...
The information will be shared at the Geotec Hanoi 2023 (GH 2023) conference "Geotechnics for Sustainable Infrastructure Development" taking place on December 14-15 at the National Convention Center, Hanoi . The conference is organized by Fecon Group in collaboration with the Vietnam Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Thuy Loi University, Japan Geotechnical Society and Vietnam Petroleum Institute.
Mr. Pham Viet Khoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fecon Joint Stock Company, Head of the Organizing Committee of GH 2023, said that the expectation of organizing the conference is to contribute to shortening the gap in science and technology in the geotechnical industry between Vietnam and developed countries, while creating a playground for scientists to connect, exchange and learn from each other, and exploit and apply scientific achievements achieved in the world.

According to Mr. Khoa, Vietnam is a country located in a geographical area with many threats of natural disasters and climate change, especially the geological conditions are very complex leading to having to face unsustainable problems related to construction, operation and exploitation of all types of works nationwide. Therefore, the task of scientists and professionals is to find the optimal solution for each specific requirement, applying appropriate technology so that each project ensures 3 criteria of safety, sustainability, environmental friendliness at the lowest cost.
This conference will focus on six major topics of geotechnics: deep foundations; tunnel and underground space construction; soft ground improvement; numerical modeling and geotechnical monitoring; landslides and erosion; offshore wind energy and coastal geotechnics. These topics will be given in-depth lectures by world-leading professors including: Professor Alessandro Mandolini (University of Campania, Italy), Professor Giulia MB Viggiani (University of Cambridge, UK), Professor Rainer Massarsch (Geo Risk & Vibration Scandinavia AB, Sweden); Professor Antonio Gens (Technical University of Catalonia, Spain), Professor Mitsu Okamura (Ehime University, Vice President of the Japan Geotechnical Society), Professor Richard Jardine (Imperial College London, UK).
The organizers said that there are currently nearly 300 presentations by more than 800 authors and groups of authors from 41 countries around the world sent to the conference. The scientific council has accepted 208 papers (this number increased by 15% compared to the 2019 conference). The reports will be published by Springer Publishing - one of the world's leading publishers specializing in global education and research.
On this occasion, international experts also paid a technical visit to the Metro Line 3 construction site in Hanoi (urban railway project, Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station section) to survey and make a preliminary assessment of the construction quality using tunnel boring machine (TBM) technology.
