In recent days, the bamboo forest of the people in Chien Thang residential area (Viet Trung Farm town, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh ) has been eaten by millions of locusts, this is something that has never happened before and there is no solution to completely handle it.
People are extremely worried, because this is something that has never happened before and there is no solution to kill locusts. |
According to local people, this bamboo forest used to be very green, however, in a short time, locusts appeared and ate all the leaves. This not only affected the growth of bamboo trees but also directly affected the income of the people.
In cluster 7, Chien Thang residential area, Viet Trung Farm town, many households have production land in the administrative boundary of Nam Dinh village, Phu Dinh commune, Bo Trach district (the area adjacent to Chien Thang residential area), there are 21 families growing bamboo shoots with an area of over 20 hectares, each year bringing in about 50 million VND/hectare.

However, with the appearance of millions of locusts clinging to the trees, about 8 hectares of bamboo have been stripped of their leaves, the bamboo trees are at risk of dying and this situation is still continuing. In addition, some other crops are also damaged by locusts.
Mr. Nguyen Van Minh (residing in Chien Thang Residential Group, Viet Trung Farm Town) said: Last year, locusts appeared but in small numbers, this year there were too many, eating all day and night, 1 hectare but only 2 nights and all the leaves were eaten, this morning I went out to see only branches left. Currently, my 2 hectares of bamboo shoots have been destroyed by locusts, more than 50% of the area.
"If the locusts eat like this, the tree will not have the strength to produce bamboo shoots. Last year, we harvested bamboo shoots every 3 days, 200 kg each time. Now, it takes 6-7 days to harvest a dozen kilos," Mr. Minh said sadly.

Sharing the same situation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chuong (Chien Thang residential group, Viet Trung Farm town) added: If the locusts eat the bamboo shoots, even if they grow, they will become hard, so it is a loss for the people. In general, the people here are very sad.
Worried about the devastation caused by locusts, people have proactively sought solutions to deal with them. However, with such a large number of locusts, these solutions are only temporary and not thorough, because the pesticides they buy will kill them, but they will kill them at the base of the tree, not high up.
According to Mr. Hoang Minh Trung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Trung Farm Town, Bo Trach District: This is the first time this situation has occurred, so there is no effective solution yet. We have reported to the District Department of Agriculture and Environment for handling and guidance for the people. With such a large number of locusts, the remaining bamboo areas of the farmers are still being destroyed.
“Given the above situation, specialized agencies need to promptly intervene to assess and determine the origin and impact of the locusts. At the same time, there should be solutions to thoroughly handle the above situation to ensure people's lives,” Mr. Trung suggested.
