Passengers panic as Cat Linh-Ha Dong train stops suddenly in heavy rain

On May 23, many passengers traveling on the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway reported that at around 10 a.m. the same day, the train suddenly stopped before reaching its destination.

According to Mr. Vu Hong Truong - General Director of Hanoi Metro, on the morning of May 23 and yesterday afternoon of May 22, the Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway train had to stop suddenly while operating on the track, causing many passengers to panic.

Explaining the train's sudden stop, Mr. Truong said that according to the procedure, in normal weather conditions, the Cat Linh - Ha Dong train operates in automatic driving mode. The train driver is only responsible for opening and closing the doors when arriving at the stations and handling any unusual situations. However, when it rains, the slippery rails will cause the automatic system to stop at the wrong station, so the train drivers reported and requested to switch to manual driving mode for safety. The switching time only takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute, depending on the operating skills of each train driver.

“As soon as I received the report requesting the order to switch from automatic to manual driving mode to ensure safety in the thunderstorm, I approved the order. The approval order applies to the entire route, all trains in operation are switching from automatic to manual driving mode, so some trains will arrive at the station, some trains will not arrive at the station yet," said Mr. Truong.

"However, Hanoi Metro was subjective and did not use loudspeakers to inform passengers. We hope passengers understand. Hanoi Metro always accepts all opinions to serve passengers more safely and better," Mr. Truong said, affirming that the above incident was not a sudden rehearsal incident.
