This morning, November 2, at the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the announcement and draw ceremony for the Ho Chi Minh City National University Student Football Tournament - THACO Cup 2024 took place.
The jerseys of the 8 teams were launched this morning.
This is an activity to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day and towards the 30th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City National University's establishment and development (January 27, 1995 - January 27, 2025).
This 11-a-side football tournament brings together 250 players from 8 male student football teams of member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University including: University of Technology; University of Information Technology; University of Natural Sciences; University of Economics and Law; University of Social Sciences and Humanities; An Giang University; International University; University of Health Sciences. The competition days promise to gather more than 5,000 fans from 8 universities with football teams participating in the tournament.

Mr. Huynh Duc Thang, co-head of the tournament organizing committee, said that the competition method is that 8 teams are drawn into 2 groups, each group plays a round robin to calculate ranking points. The first and second-placed teams in each group will enter the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners will compete for the championship. In the semi-finals and finals, if the two teams are tied after the official match time, there will be a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
The tournament applies the current IFAB (International Football Association Board) football competition laws and the latest additions and amendments issued by the tournament organizers.

The representative of the organizing committee said that the HCM City National University Student Football Tournament - THACO CUP 2024 is proof that HCM City National University always considers the training, exchange and connection activities of students in the whole system as one of the important tasks and always creates all conditions, as well as strengthens the organization of student physical education and sports activities. The tournament is also a bridge, increasing the interest of organizations and businesses in sports activities for students. Especially the participation, companionship and support of generations of alumni for students.
The tournament is co-organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University and other units, with Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (THACO) as the main sponsor. Interestingly, the founder is Mr. Tran Ba Duong, currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of THACO and Chairman of the Board of Representatives of Phu Tho - Bach Khoa Alumni Community (BKA).
