The project aims to consolidate and improve the grassroots agricultural extension system in the direction of expanding multifunctional services, serving agricultural restructuring, contributing to consolidating and building the agricultural extension system, diversifying agricultural extension activities to serve the development of raw material areas, improving productivity, quality and added value of agricultural products. Immediately after the project was approved, the province established the first two community agricultural extension groups (KNCĐ) in Thuan Chau and Mai Son. To date, the whole province has developed 99 KNCĐ groups with 830 members. From 2022 to present, the KNCĐ groups have organized 14 training courses; 5 seminars, talks and 2 tours to new-style cooperatives, attracting 600 farmers to participate.
Regarding the transfer and application of advanced techniques, the KNCĐ groups have coordinated with international organizations GIZ and JICA to organize 16 intensive training courses on planting and caring techniques for Arabica coffee, Queen custard apple, intensive custard apple cultivation, and basic marketing and GAP training courses for 440 people. From the capital of the National Agricultural Extension Center, the KNCĐ groups have also organized 6 field courses on post-flood production recovery for 180 people; 2 technical consultation sessions for 120 farming households; 6 rural vocational training conferences for 540 people.
Ms. Ngan Thi Minh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Agricultural Technical Center, said: Implementing the Project, the Center has supported the KNCĐ teams to connect with the DOVECO Son La, Bao Lam, Nafoods Gia Lai vegetable and fruit processing centers and traders to consume 9 tons of pineapple, 172 tons of passion fruit, 15 tons of custard apple for cooperatives and farmers. Thereby, promoting the transformation of crop and livestock structure, improving farmers' income and life, encouraging the establishment of cooperatives, cooperative groups, and forming modern agricultural economic thinking, contributing to strengthening community capacity and building creative rural areas, suitable to local realities.
Thuan Chau Community Agricultural Extension Team has proactively developed plans and directed production in communes, supported the new rural construction program; identified training needs, transferred new technical advances to farmers; consulted on production and business plans and linked agricultural product consumption for people and cooperatives.
Ms. Lo Thanh Binh, Team Leader, said: The Team consists of 6 members who are provincial agricultural extension officers, representatives of cooperatives, local leaders and part-time DOVECO officers, operating as an "extended arm" of grassroots agricultural extension. From 2022 to present, the Team has organized 28 training courses for 1,065 farmers; 6 field trips, 2 technical consultation sessions for 120 households; supported people in disaster areas to restore production. At the same time, connected with businesses to consume 5 tons of pineapple, 100 tons of passion fruit and 10 tons of custard apple for cooperatives and farmers.
Mr. Lo Van Lai, Head of the Chieng Luong Agricultural Extension Team, Phieng Pan Commune, said: The team consists of 2 members, a commune official and a grassroots agricultural extension officer. Closely following each village, the team has promoted and guided farmers to build effective economic models, apply science and technology to production; proposed appropriate training, introduced the State's support policies and encouraged production linkages along the value chain, contributing to increasing income and improving people's lives.
With flexible organization, suitable to local practice, KNCĐ groups increasingly affirm their role as an effective bridge between farmers and science and technology, the market and professional agencies; as an "extended arm" of the agricultural extension sector, contributing to promoting production development and improving farmers' lives.
